Well, I got an answer back today and TMS has denied my request.

So, if you want them you will have to go to Japan and pick them up.:frown:

Sorry, I thought I had that cat skinned but it did not work this time around.

Thanks for giving it a shot. You are always going the extra step for everyone.

Thanks for your effort Dan!

Bastards! How about we swap out the 20004 filters off all the FJ Cruisers as they enter the country?

I've got one left - probably should frame the sucker.

Things could be worse. I hear Acura/Honda rebrands the FRAM filter as Honda OEM filters. That would suck.

Thanks for trying Dan.

OK, good news indeed!

I'm willing to trade a couple of 20004s for a Warn winch! anybody?
better get a move on it, soon it'll only be *one* filter!
:D

I have ten, didn't even know they were that rare.

And you let this stop you?

Tenacity my friend, tenacity. Immediately go to plan B and report back to us next week.

Thanks for trying and thanks for all the help lining up parts for my HG repair. Having someone to point you in the right direction and save you money when you are a newbie is a big help.

Pardon my ignorance, but is it THAT much better than the replacement?

If it is, then I might find out how much they are here and see if it would be worth it to send a chit-load for cheap or something. :grinpimp:

Just wondering.

The 90915-20004 is the best filter, in my opinion. It would be interesting to know how much they would be if you picked them up. I fear that the cost, by the time they are shipped, may make them goofy money.

What if there was some sort of FJ owner uproar over the fact that they COULD NOT get an OEM filter from Toyota for their brand new FJ Cruiser.Maybe if there were enough complaints, bad Customer Survey reports...maybe then they would do something about it because it seems the only thing they are worried about are their CSI scores??????

Only problem with an uproar from the new FJC owners is, I can't imagine anybody but us really cares what oil filter is on their ride.

except for the part about superseding to 20002, this guy seems to have sourced the nippon denso version of the 90915-20004 filter and is selling them cheap in batches of 4. the part number on the nippon boxes in the photo is 90915-20002 so dan will need to tell us what that is. they look ok visually but you can't see the threads.

otoh,

Thanks for trying Dan. Maybe one day...

Use good oil, change it regulary and use a Purolator, Wix/Napa Gold, Motorcraft or Toyota filter and don't worry that you can't get the 20004.

Would I buy them if they were available at $5? You bet. Will my engine wear measurably increase over the next 100,000 miles because I am using Motorcraft and Napa Gold? I doubt it. We are splitting hairs here.

Dan,

You can still get the old school big ones right? They may be more expensive, but they seem to work well on both my 40 and my 80. ;)
