Hunter (my son) and I have started on the cummins swap in to the 1989 fj-62. I have been taking pics but don't know how to post them. so i am sending them to the guy that owns the truck and i'm sure he will post them up. he also has video of us starting the motor on a wood stand. will try and get him to post that also.
we will keep the pics and info coming as i get things going.
as ya'll will see in the pics. we had to get the truck as low as we could. so we took off the 37" tires and put on a set of stock tire's. looks funny and could still be lower but it will have to do for now.
also we got the motor out. meatloaf stopped by to day to pic up the motor and a few other things for his 3f build.
i cut out the stock motor frame mounts and now need to grind every thing smooth. i hope to have to 4bt installed into the bay by next week.

Big Red did look funny with the tiny tires up front. Look forward to seeing the progress.

You need it low to remove the 3FE? For the 4BT, it will need a 4" lift for the pan to clear.

oh this truck is big. i think i put a 10 or 12" lift on it when i owned it. it runs 37" and you could go to 40" if you never took it off road. i think we will have plenty of room for the oil pan.

ok I just saw this thread here after I posted the pictures on the other thread. How can I link them? This will make it easier to upload pictures to one location as the internet is slow in Iraq. Here's where I loaded them.

BTW I'm really excited about this conversion, it's one of the few things that keeps me motivated. I can't wait to come home and drive it. Edwin thanks for taking the pictures.

ok so it looks like we will be moving all pics and tech to the link he started. if any one is a round and wants to stop by and look. the doors are always open. stop by. (we do take an 1hr lunch around noon) :>)

The tires do make it look a little funny. Cool build, I'll need to stop by soon and take a look.

Thanks for posting up the pictures. That takes forever to do from this end. Interested in people's opinions on mechanical fans vs. electrical.

Thank you for your service, and come home safe.

i like mech fans over E-fan. but the E-fans gain us room but come with the possibility of going out all of the sudden.
but then again the mech-fans can also go out as well. it's a toss-up. i think we will need to go with E-fans will know more as soon as i get the motor hanging in the bay.

oh and thanks for posting the pics

Go mechanical with a new fan clutch if you have the room. You can always add pusher fans up front if you need the extra cooling capacity for your AC condenser.

That's my preference, Mechanical as the main, and then electrical if needed. There should be room both, but we'll see after the mock up.
