Well yeah, he does...but it's all relative to your driving style and location.

I live in Littleton, plenty of hills and grades around here. I've noticed that having it on actually makes it easier to get up hills without the truck trying to upshift on me and slow me down. If it makes my drive easier, then gas mileage be damned. ;)

Actually, my LC is waaay faster (on the trail) than any M5 I've ever seen! :)

are you going on the one next weekend?

yeah probably. Are you in this state? I can't keep up.. :D

Far I'll probably be late, but we'll make it for pizza... gonna rock the 80 though since the 100 doesn't have sliders yet.

Not sure about in the 100 series but in 4LO on the 80 series, when you are in 4LO it tends to stay in 1st gear until a high RPM. Pressing the second button allows you to cruise a little faster without revving so high at first and it takes away from some of the jerk start/stop of 1st gear in 4LO. I use it a lot.
...

One of the benefits of doing your pin7 on the 80 mod is you'll lower that shift point, so it'll go into second sooner. I don't know if the same benefit holds true for the 100 series though, can anyone here confirm?.. dang really mixing up the tech now.

Almost.

Hey I used 2nd start at the carwash so I wouldn't need go brake going thru the jet drier.

Thanks for the invite Far, but I'm currently sliderless, and no more weekends off as of the first of the year.

I'm working graves right now too (8p-6a), which isn't conducive to...well...anything.

Although since my days off have switched, I have Wednesdays off so I might actually be able to make it out to an RS club meet and join up.

LOL I'm totally going to use the 2nd start button the next time I wash the rig, I didn't even think to use it for that purpose. Awesome.

I used this button quite extensively while in Southern Colorado over New Years during a 3 day snowstorm. I used it while motoring around town. It certainly adds to its sure-footedness in snow.

It works wonders in situations like the black pickup on the left. Parking on a downward slope, most of this towns parking was even steeper than this and covered with ice and snow. Trying to back up without sliding into your neighbors car was the challenge. With the LC and 2nd Start it was a breeze.

Hey, is that Ouray? We used to live in Phoenix and would drive up there, we LOVE LOVE it, especially in the summer, so beautiful!

Enjoy it!

It's supposed to be used in deep sand and snow so you don't 'dig down' and just get stuck taking off. Does that make sense? Not sure of a better way to explain it, but even when I was a kid my dad used to start in 2nd gear sometimes in the snow.

Why? I mean, what do we gain by having it start in 2nd rather than in 1st?

I know we may not "need" the low gearing, but what's the harm?

...I've never used the button, and have never felt the need for it... perhaps I'm missing something :hhmm:

So with the 2nd start button enabled, will it start in 2nd even with full throttle?

Correct. It locks out 1st. You actually have a lot of control on the A343F if you combine shift lever, OD button and 2nd start button.

Where I primarily use mine is in 4 lo. 1st even with 35s is very low.

Another vote for 2nd button while in low. Unless you need to go really slow, it's just about perfect for moderate off road driving. When I lived in Michigan, we used to use 2nd or even 3rd to start off on the ice. Not really for deep stuff, just slick and sloped.

If you haven't used 2ND start in 4 low, try it...you will avoid all of the lunging from 1st to 2ND...I've turned a couple people onto it, they have enjoyed the difference...

Thanks...never really tested it and wife has the truck at work so wasn't able to just play with it. Nice...love that it fully locks out 1st. Those silly auto-manual trannys on most cars don't lock out anything...you start to slow down and it will automatically downshift...no starting in 2nd on those...so it's nice to know this actually locks out 1st gear. Another reason to love my truck.
