Ok lets try it this way... There are three connections on the solenoid for the starter, one (the big one) goes directly to the positive terminal of the batt. There are two more one is a spade connector and the other is for a ring terminal. What are their functions and where do they connect to ?

Here is the schematic of the starting circuit for the F engine starter with bypass function.
Also here is a labeled pic of same F starter The 2F starter will have a spade lug instead of the ring terminal but is otherwise the same.

Thanks for the reply and the pic, that is the info I needed. Does the ground strap to the frame just go under one of the starter bolts or is there a place on the starter for it to attatch ?

Thaks man, while we are on the subject does this ground the block to frame as well enough or is there supposed to be another strap from frame to block ?

On mine (2/71) The negative battery cable goes to the frame ground and from there a short ground to the block. This is the only ground to the block on mine. You should also ground the body to the frame and use bonding straps to connect the front clip body panels. Especially if you like to mount things with nylon washers to protect the paint. ;) Several lights in the early Cruisers rely on body grounds to function. Some run a separate ground from the frame to the alternator. This prevents the small regulator ground wire from frying if the alternator looses ground connection through its mounting.
