Can someone tell me where the starter relay is on my 1993, I can’t seem to find the location on here or in service manual. I’m having some starting issues and I’m starting there.
Thanks

There is NOT a starter relay on these trucks.

The starter solenoid is mounted on the starter. If it is just clicking, then your starter contacts (again....on the starter) need to be replaced. If you pick up a reman starter (Toyota or Denso) the solenoid will come with it.

Another possibility is the battery cables (both pos and neg) or the fusible links (3-wire harness off the positive post of the battery)

Well that would explain why I can’t find it. It’s been kinda intermittent till lately it some times just clicks sometimes it would turn over but sounded like the starter would momentarily loose power and yesterday it would turn over and not fire right away, tried it a few times after turning over for awhile it kinda sputtered and fired up ran just fine. So I turned it off and tried it again and it fired right up and I repeated the process a few more times and it was fine until the last time after it fired up the starter stayed engaged and so I turned the key off and the ignition cut but starter stayed on

Recently went through this on my '92. I'd pressure washed the grime off the engine and gummed up the solinoid something fierce. Order a contact kit from Amazon and make sure to have some crocus cloth available to c!ean up the contacts. Worst part is getting the starter out and back in but definitely doable. Once you have the starter out remove the cover with 4 screws and clean the gunk out . Replace the contacts if they look crummy or just touch up with the crocus cloth. I used a tiny amount of silicone lube (aka dielectric grease) and put it all back together. Do not lose the ball bearing that is sitting in there. I used some RTV on the sealing gasket in an attempt to keep future gunk out but this is an ad lib on my part. Works like a charm.

Yours is a 93 (different from the 92 listed in previous post).

Your description points to bad contacts in the starter solenoid. You can order new contacts through Amazon, or local Toyota Dealer, or FLAPS, or Toyota Parts | Toyota Online Parts | Genuine Toyota Parts | Toyota Parts Online

Make sure if you decide to purchase a reman starter, that your get the 2.0 kW version. There are (3) sizes available I believe. A 1.8 kW, 2.0 kW and the 2.2kW. The 2.2 is NLA, and the 1.8 is for hot climates only.

Make sure you inspect your battery cables as well. It's not uncommon for the battery cables to be doing a similar problem as well. Starter can be accessed from behind the LF wheel through the inner fender skirt. Make sure to disconnect your battery BEFORE you start taking it apart.

I ended up removing the LF wheel so I could have more room to work. Some claim to be 30 minutes for R/R, but it took me 2-1/2 hours.

Thank you sir I have a friend who owns a very reputable starter rebuild shop in the area I’ll probably take it to him

Before you start dissassembling, you should try grounding the coil/ignitor holdown cage. It is a major ground. Unbolt the coil cage, and clean the bolts and seating holes.

Then take a separate wire, and hook to one corner of the alum Ignitor case, and attach solidly to ground.

Should solve the hard start probs, and make your headlights brighter too.

If it has been bad for a while, check your rotor, in distrib. The high resistance causes many related arcing probs,

Dude...really?
My refrigerator light is out. Should I ground my igniter?

My 1994 definately has a starter relay. My understanding is that these were discontinued in 1996 when the wiring was revised.
My starter solenoid is in the left fender just behind the ABS and in front of the firewall accessed from under the hood.

No US spec 80 Series had a starter relay.

Starter relay is only found on factory diesel trucks as far as I know.

Adding a starter relay to a gas truck has been done, though I wouldn't bother with an overpriced Toyota OEM relay.

I have a 94 US Spec LC and no starter relay here. I was having the same problem and replaced the started with a cheap rebuild because it was accessible immediately. However, after 3 months it started doing it again. So I pulled the trigger on a denso one, like I should have in the first place. However, again a couple of months later same problem. Eventually I figured it was the neutral safety switch. Since then no problems.(knock on wood)

I had no click when turning there key to the start position.
