Starter Question.. Location?? Diagram?

My buddy here at work has a 1999 UZJ100...

His starter is slipping and he wants to replace it but doesn't know where it is. He said he couldn't see it when he opened the hood

As he doesn't have the vehicle here today .....maybe someone could give me a clue to thje location so I can pass it on ? I'm sure it is not the same as my FJ62.

Plus a pic or a link to a pic/diagram would be nice if anyone knows where to find one. ??

search for the starter contact thread. Lots of pics and couple diagrams I believe.

It took me about 4.5 hrs to remove the starter, replace the contacts and put it back in. I followed the instructions provided on www.ih8mud.com and they worked like a champ.

The starter motor is nestled between the Banks of the V8 engine toward the back near the firewall. It's on top of the engine, but underneath the whole intake manifold.

Search for "Starter contacts" or "replace starter" and you will find plenty of guidance for your friend.

Need to remove the plastic engine cover, air intake, throttle body/intake manifold and various cables and injector wires to get enough stuff out of the way.

Then you get into the engine compartment and reach way back and fumble with starter bolts and you are in business.
