starter motor brushes (1 Viewer)

Hi, I'm new to this site. I'm from Australia, I have a 1994, 1Hz diesel, 80 series wagon. I've just replaced the contacts and plunger in my starter motor and was wondering if I should replace the brushes in the motor as well. The cruiser has 322,000 klms (190,000 miles approx). I didn't want to pull it apart if its not really necessary. Its a 1.4 kw version 28100-17040. I followed the walk through found at this site ( http://www.george4wdtaskled.com/starter.html ) to do the contacts, Thanks George

The carbon brush is the heart and soul of any electrical motor. They are dirt cheap and you should change them if you're already there, and put the old ones in a safe place in case of need. It takes a fair amount of time, but they do wear out.
