Folks,
Is it ok to start the FJ40 without the cluster fitted? Trying to install a new radio and what to make sure everything works first!
Also any idea on this wire?

There shouldn't be a problem starting the truck with the cluster removed, but just be mindful that all power normally passes through the 30A ammeter - so just connect the two ring terminals together to close the circuit. If you have the 50A gauge then you don't need to worry since the shunt remains in place.

Make sure that the circular connector isn't shorted to anything

Cheers will give it a go

It never hurts to specify your rig when asking for help 78FJ40USA lets you look at the wiring diagram for something that has a white with red tracer, a blue and a black wire for example.

Generally less crap on the international version but basically the same..
Got dash pads?
Got smog kit?
Got a heater?
