Standard Toyota Clutch vs Aftermarket Heavy Duty?

Have a Terrain Tamer HD for the 80, and a XXII (Exedy parts) for the 45. Both will be running GTurbo GX's, so did not want to deal with any chance of slippage. Been driving a Stage 3 clutch in my Audi for almost ten years, so used to a heavier clutch. The 80 will be on the road in a week or two, so can comment on how stiff at that point.

Can relate to Delancy's comment on pushing the clutch through the floor...felt like I would do that with the wife's Bimmer.

I listened to all your good words of wisdom and I ordered a HD clutch kit

What's the OD, spline count and spline diameter of a 1HD-T series clutch plate?

Factory it's 14 coarse for 1HD-T and 21 fine for 1HZ ..

My Isuzu clutch plate is also 275mm OD, 29mm spline and 21 splines. But the cover plate I have has no issue holding ~600Nm. It has not slipped ever.

Isuzu have a 21 spines 300mm disc if you wanna use the 1HD-T flywheel ( or resurface the 1HZ ) for more contact surface ..

Yes Isuzu went from 275mm to 300mm in 1988. Both disc sizes are available in both splines but I am not sure if Toyota pressure plates are interchangeable.

I did use Toyota PP ( 300mm ) with the Isuzu disc ( 300mm ) back in the day and was good enough when I was stock engine ..

Well, I've ordered, paid and receive what it should be Exedy HD clutch component : clutch cover and clutch disc.

I've Google the parts numbers and that come out that fit to my Cruiser (obviously)... but didn't get any relevant information about the fact is these part are HD or OEM replecement.

The box did not show any indication about HD, Safari, Sport. Just a brown exedy box fot the clutch cover and a blue and gray box for the disc.

Cover : TYC540
Disc : TYD038U

Any tought ?

To whom may it concern:

The part number list above is Exedy OEM replacement part, not HD. I had the confirmation from Exedy.

Last week. when I ordered the part, I clearly said 3 or 4 time that I want the HD clutch kit. The employee said so and (but) the owner said that the cover is the one I need for my 12HT... the one I need for my turbo engine. On the phone, at this time, I did not notice this subtil insinuation.

Today, I call back the seller and said that I'm disappoint and I told him that if I knew that the kit was not HD, I would chose another seller with an Exedy Sport kit (+80$)... or buy the same Exedy OEM replacement part cheaper elsewhere (-100$).

He said he did not tell me that the clutch kit was HD, but he provide me a clutch kit with a stonger cover. In fact, he pretend that the other seller provide TYC518 cover which is use for 2F, 3F or 2H engine while he sell the good one for the 12HT - TYC540.

... You know, when you are dealing with seller on the other side of the country... and when original part number are hide behind an ''in-house"" part number... it is difficult to truly know what you really get.

Ho yeah... I can send back the parts and pay, again, for shipping and pay shipping, again for another part from another seller... (clutch kit are rather heavy !)

Well, I get an Exedy OEM replacement clutch kit that it will be fine in my Cruiser but I found my-self cheat...
