So what is the latest advice on where to purchase a stainless steel exhaust system for a 1978 FJ40? My desire is to have it look and sound as close to original (except that it is stainless) as possible. I have read everything from local muffler shops to trying to replace with original equipment (non-stainless), but most of these posts are kind of old. Thanks in advance for any input, JMP.

I know stainless exhaust is available for the muscle car market. That would be a great source for the tube, then find a shop to fix it to your fj...:hhmm:

My dad got stainless pipe from a farm supply place that puts in milking parlors. It was about half the price of the exhaust place. had it bent to fit and has been on there for about 8 years.

Thanks for the info everyone. I decided to have a shop bend some stainless tubes for me. JMP

Home Run. I was going to post that folks could always contact a home town muffler shop to see if they stock, or can get 409 SS tubing. We use to make a 2.5" system to fit behind our Headers, but that was 1,000 years ago, and while we still sell the heck out of Headers, the exhaust system died from a lack of popularity.
