I hope things work out this time.

Its hard to see those bearings and imagine no crank damage you are one lucky man..

the precups will be fine.

600 grit?!?! seems pretty coarse to me, get a second opinion on the parts and the advice.

Well the heads back on and the precups tightened up solid at -10.
The rods came back from the machine shop and all were out of round.
The mains had a little wear but looked good, and it had to be from the 3 consecutive dry starts after the rebuild.
As for the crank polishing use a strip of used 400 grit or 800-1000 new strip.
I installed all the pistons and i was able to turn the motor over by hand (no head on) all seems smooth and much better than the first & faild attempt.
now 2 questions
1 TDC is... piston 1&4 up or 2&3 up? im sure im at TDC but i wana be 100% sure
2 Best primeing method? fill through relief valve or over fill.....???

Thanks again all

priming the oil pump, disconnect the edic and crank over. no fuel, no fire, no load. also make sure you use lots of white grease on the bearings and make sure you oil the cylinder walls to prevent scoring.

I used lots of white grease on the bearings.
I will give each cylinder a shot of oil, but should I leave the glow plugs out to let out the excess oil?

Usually you would wipe the cylinder walls with oil. If you have to put it in after assembly then it would probably be a good idea to leave the glow plugs out when you spin it up. You will want to leave them out at first anyway to try to build oil pressure before actually starting it.

Its ALIVE!!! and sounds good too the only thing left to do is set the valves hot and tinker with the hac/fuel screw EGTs wont go over 800-900F

as for the prime i just pulled the plugs (there was a shot of oil in each cylinder) and turned the truck over till i got pressure all went well
thanks again all

Wayne's s*** Show Run this spring up near Parry Sound as a follow up to WWSSR last nov (Wayne's Winter s*** Show Run).

We have 6 trucks booked already. April 17th, 18th, 19th 2009 are the dates.

you need tow hooks front and rear, a realization that bodywork by mother nature is a possibility.

we are tackling a trail we found in Nov. it has everything, skag, rock, sidehill, steep hills, beautiful scenery and great companionship...

what more could you ask for?

anyone with a desire to wheel, take suggestions and drive a Cruiser (hell, we even have a FJCruiser coming along) are welcome to contact me. Wives, significant others, kids and dogs are welcome.

What a story! Sorry to hear what pain the parts stuffup caused you.
When something doesn't look or feel right its probably because it isn't. I always cross check with my old parts even when it feels a bit silly to do so (such as correct part numbers on boxes).
Bit like driving a car - you can be a good driver but its that idiot that's going to come and dent your fender. Always allow for someone else's mistakes.
Glad you sorted it out.
