I've also been tinkering, but nothing major like you guys.

@CDmpc - @GSPRunner and I will also be getting into Prineville Thursday evening. Our intent is to leave Seattle fairly early as our drive is pretty long.

I think we're going to leave Monday morning. Probably wake up, eat, and slowly get ready then hit the pavement back home. It'll be a long day if we try and get on the trail with you guys that day.

We may all have to leave Monday morning if the snow is still nut deep! Eh, it's an adventure. It wouldn't be any fun if it went according to plan.

Well I have been super busy but also super excited for the trip this weekend. Had to run to the coast to get the windows in an old Toyota Chinook 4x4 camper that I sold and make sure it still ran. Was going to drive it back over here to central oregon but ran out of time on mothers day. But it ran great and ready to hand off to the next owner (from canada).

So my list of things I still have to get done are:
- Install rear driveshaft back into the cruiser (has new Precision Ujoints)
- Makes sure clicking is gone in the rear.
- Install CB where the ash trey is (wiring to the antenna in the rear is done)
- Change transfer case oil
- Was going to install the pump up kit on my ARB compressor (i've already purchased it). But just had all the leaks in the ARB system fixed and am afraid of making more leaks. May just bring the kit and if in dire need could install it on the trail.
- Drive the cruiser as much as possible this week to see if the preload in the front bearings hold. If not I will redo the preload on thursday before the trip.

I am already planning on staying Walla Walla Monday night so one way or another I'm getting there. Would love it if it wasnt on a paved road!!

I'll also be headed over Thursday evening. Probably going to head up to Steins Pillar for some Milky Way Timelapse goodness.
Is the plan still to meet up at Price Slasher (930 N Main St, Prineville, OR 97754) at 6:00am Friday?

That's the plan, but you could meet us along the route on FR 33 around 0630
(Lat: 44°28'4.91"N Lon: 120°37'42.95"W)
as it's like 10 miles from the Pillar (assuming you are camping up there).

Commo plan:
CB channel 20 (27.205Mhz)
FRS (walkie talkie) channel 7 (462.7125Mhz)
GMRS Channel 1/Channel 15 on Motorola Talkabout (462.5500) {Just added this as an alternate in case someone has a higher watt GMRS radio that won't do FRS like the Icom handhelds)
No tones, sidebands, or special channels, we'll do a radio check enroute. There won't be any radio traffic but us once we leave Prineville.

My cell is (7six0 two67 358six), however I'm on ATT and it doesn't work for 90% of the route. Verizon does better, US cellular does best out here. T-mobile is worthless except in town.

Drat! I have EMR class on Thursday evening. I guess I won't be going out Thursday after all...

Well I keep checking stuff off my list. Got the rear driveshaft with new Ujoints back in yesterday. Clicking is gone in the rear!
Also Got my CB installed and my buddy with his XJ (who is coming on the trip) got his installed.

My plans have changed slightly. I will be heading back toward home monday morning instead of heading to Walla Walla. So I will be camping in Meacham at campsite #3 and then taking off in the morning.

@AWilson013 and I will be getting into Prineville around 4-5 Thursday and finding a place to get some food and a couple beers if anyone cares to join.

I should be in around 6. Beers it is. 5o8-eight2six-8711

It will probably be 9pm by the time we make it to Prineville. Just saw this in the news...near our route two kids got stuck in a 4runner and needed rescued. I really, really hope we can make it through, but you navigator types should think about some alternate routes that stay below 5500' or so... Prineville pair rescued after SUV gets stuck in snowbank

Well, hopefully due to the fact we have plenty of recovery gear and we still have a couple more days of really warm weather, hopefully hopefully we'll be ok.

hmm... Toyota gets stuck and needs rescue... Good thing I'll be along. :p

I'll have all of the 2014 USGS maps along the route with me. So we should have ample resources to find detours if it comes to that.

Ha! I'll bring extra tools for you.

The maps may be quite useful, who knows it may be fine and we'll make it the whole way on route. Won't know till we get there.

I have looked over the route quite a few times. The NF road we are on for most of day one is name "Summit Rd" and I believe it is named this because it literally following the highest country. But the good news about that is that there are tons of spots we can bail out to the north and get to lower elevation right away. And worse case scenario we can hit hwy 26. My guess is there are some spots that are super deep still that are in the shade. HOpefully we wont run into too many of those.

I think the trip just brought on a whole new challenge. Let's coax the Dodge into getting stuck and/or broken.

Whoa whoa whoa. I don't want to see anyone break anything. Do you know how far it is to a parts store?

On a serious note, if we can get through Big Summit Prairie and drop down the South side of the Ochoco's toward Paulina/Izee that would be a lot better. South facing slope and all...plus I'm more familiar with that side. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. :steer:

Also the ticks are bad this year, we use K9 advantix on the dog and it seems to work.

I was at Dry Soda Lookout North of Seneca (5593') like 3 weeks ago and there was no snow, then went to Fall Mt. Lookout at 5,949' and there was one little drift on the North side of the hill in the shade. I figured by now it would all be gone, there was none on the road at all.

Its also interesting to note the flow rates are up on streams in the area, indicating the snow is melting.

NF-1250 where they were stuck is indeed a section Summit Rd. That said, something tells me they probably weren't aired down, and probably didn't have a half dozen vehicles with winches with them...

I'll be the optimist and say I think we'll be fine through the Ochocos =p

Unfortunately I won't be able to join in on this trip. Have fun and be safe.
