Yeah I agree getting fuel in Sumpter will be a good thing. I really dont know how many miles I get with a full tank anymore. I switched to 5.29s and my fuel economy seems to be way way better. But my odometer is also lying to me a little bit just like my speedometer.

My son and I have watched that Gold Rush show quite a bit and he is stoked I told him we are going through the area of their new claim. He is getting really into rocks and minerals lately which I know nothing about.

Camp 2 isn't far off from where the Armstrong nugget was found laying on the ground. It weighs 80.4 ounces and is on display at US Bank in Baker. Who knows, you might stub your toe on a bigger one out there.

Well I have heard from everyone that was confirmed going but @GSPRunner. But I am guessing he is flying solo and the two "maybes" arent going then we are at 11 vehicles (2 meeting at first campsite Friday evening) and 19 people.

Oops, sorry I didn't chime in. I'll be coming, riding solo aside from bringing one of my dogs. I plan on going home on Monday.

193 miles off road is going to be a hell of a push for me. I'll also have 5 gallons of fuel with me, so I should be fine. If you carry my water, I'll carry your fuel for you (assuming it's a NATO style can...?).

This might work out great. I still have to go buy a fuel can. Thinking I will go with the Scepter plastic jerry can.

Hey all. Looked a bit closer at the route and I think I'll be heading out after we get fuel in Sumpter; didn't realize it was going to be quite so long and I'll have a 7 hour drive home. I'll probably take a short side trip up to Rock Creek Butte for a hike and some photography after we fuel up.

It sure doesn't seem that far. I rode from Meacham all the way to Seneca (mostly on route 5) and back home to Pendleton in one day on my KTM adventure, and I diverted up the back side of Strawberry mountain to boot. I don't think we'll make that kind of time with this convoy though.

(Forest road 10, "roads end" around 7500' elevation or so on the south side of Strawberry mt near Seneca)

I just mean that I have to be home Sunday night (have to work on Monday). And it's between 6 and 7 hours back to Corvallis without stopping, depending on where I duck out.

Figured some folks may be interested in these area forecasts for the respective camp sites.

Camp Location 1: Camp 1 NOAA

Camp Location 2: Camp 2 NOAA

Camp Location 3: Camp 3 NOAA

I like your style (I work for NWS), but your grids are off a bit. Camp 1 is closer to Seneca (CW0732) than Dayville. Dayville is usually ten degrees warmer than Seneca.

Any updates on the snow pack situation?

There is still some out there, but I think the only trouble we'll have is day 4 from Meacham to Walla Walla. I'm going to Imnaha today or tomorrow and will get a more accurate idea of what it's like up there.

I used your grids... =p

All of the areas SHOULD be within the green box, but for whatever reason I can never get it to center on the location I want. The grid listed for camp one, for example, is in the lower left corner of the box.

Almost. I listed the grids in Degrees, Minutes, Seconds.seconds format from google maps. The NWS forecast page uses Degrees.degrees format. About a year ago google maps tried to extort a ridiculous amount of money from you the taxpayer to continue embedding their maps in the NWS forecast page. Being good stewards of your money we declined to pay and went with a different map server, however to be honest it is a bit quirky as you can see. We forecast down to the 1000M (one kilometer) grid square, that is as pinpoint as it gets. One forecaster covers hundreds of square miles of "pinpoint" forecasts down to the one kilometer resolution, you can imagine how 100 meter resolution would require ten times as many forecasters. Degrees, Minutes, Seconds to decimal Degrees calculator and vice-versa

I'm working on some minor maintenance issues today. I redid my birfs a while back, and the wheel bearings loosened a tad so I had to tighten those. I also finally figured out my high idle issues (golden screw). Also for some reason my front ARB is leaking and won't lock, hopefully it's something easy or I'll be 3wd this trip. I'm stoked! Come on Thursday!

I am leaving Thursday afternoon. Who else is going north Thursday? Meet up somewhere?

and I am in full crunch mode. Was going to the birfs but now its not looking good on time- damn USPS!!! Guess I will do the rear locker install instead.

Dang man that is crunch time! Looks like I'll be 3wd this trip. My front ARB is leaking internally and won't lock, and even if I had the seals on hand there is no way I'm popping out axles to get to the third today. I'm going to do a shake down run near Tollgate tomorrow to check snow conditions, but it's not looking good for day 4 for those of you doing the Walla Walla push. Many snotel stations are reporting zero snow, however a few still register a few feet of snow. April saw many snowmelt records broken, so I still have hope for the rest of the route.

yah the birf kit came in around 6pm today....my postman thinks it the Beav's neighborhood still- via 1956- and stops to talk for 20 mins at a time going down the street. He spent 30 min 6 houses down- at least he is a good guy. Just finished the Aussie. But the birf job seems like a bridge too far- no clicks or pops just weeping that is not that bad. Really looking forward to the trip!

Bring a birf as a spare just in case!

Just got back from a prerun of day 4 (monday). There is still a lot of snow, and it's mushy. Like sink up to the frame rails in ten feet mushy. I don't think it will all melt off in seven days, we may have to loop through on a lower road or make the horrible decision to take highway 204 (gasp). We'll see...

I've also been tinkering, but nothing major like you guys.

@CDmpc - @GSPRunner and I will also be getting into Prineville Thursday evening. Our intent is to leave Seattle fairly early as our drive is pretty long.

I think we're going to leave Monday morning. Probably wake up, eat, and slowly get ready then hit the pavement back home. It'll be a long day if we try and get on the trail with you guys that day.

Look forward to meeting you northerners! I am still interested in trekking north to Prineville with anyone coming up I5 from my area too....

@tacosupreme - no spare birf for this trip; it will be fine.
