Spool gun? (1 Viewer)

Does anyone in the club have an aluminum MIG setup with a spool gun? I can't afford the gas and gun right now but I need to make mounts for an awning.

BTW, I know how to weld but I don't know how to weld with aluminum. I've heard it's quite a bit different.

It totally is different welding aluminum than steel. First big thing is that you should run AC instead of DC to get the "cleaning action" of AC.

I'm not aware of anyone who has a spoolgun in the club but @SeanLX has that Hobart TIG that would work perfectly for what you're doing.

Yea ive seen it done, its more like soldering than welding, pushing a pool of melted aluminium around, almost brazing. I have a few scraps to practice on if you need it.

Yep, I've got the welder but I'm still practicing on steel.

I do have a buddy that might be able to stop over and show us how to weld Aluminum. @lumbee1 shoot me a text and we'll figure out a plan.

I've got an ac/DC TIG but never done aluminum.

I do have a buddy that owns and operates a metal fab shop that could probably mount them up for a few bucs.
