Can anyone tell me if a 35 spline axle cut for a ford 9" is the same size as the 35 spline for the Dana?
Same question for the 40 spline.
I want to know the splines are interchangeable.

prolly close to the same size but i have my doubts if they are interchangable....different manufacturers use different spline pressure angles from what i understand....but i'm no expert and didn't stay in a holiday inn express last night either

My Randy's Ring and Pinion book says that the Ford 9 inch 35 spline axle shaft is 1.5" in diameter. For the Dana, I'm assuming you mean the D60. The only diameter reference I can find for 35 spline D60 parts is for my 35 spline stub shaft upgrade and those are 1.5" too. I see that there are diffs and lockers for D60 rear ends that are 35 spline, and there are axle shafts for those, but the diameter isn't specified here. My rear end is a D70U with 32 splines and a 1.75" diameter axle shaft, so obviously its possible for Dana-compatible parts to vary in either diameter or spline count independently.

It looks like the D60 inner is 1.625" by the book, but that's for the 29 spline... I doubt the 35 is different... at least not LESS.

I'm working in the garage today, and I'll actually go measure an old stock inner D60 shaft at the splines.

Dana 60 35 spline axles are 1.5" diameter....

Yep! I just measured. The major diameter came out at 1.490 and the splines are a few thou less... maybe 1.484

a 35 spline shaft for a D60 will fit in a 9"

The pressure angles are the same.

There are slight variations between metric and domestic stuff. And the 14 bolt is an oddity as well. But 35 and 40 spline stuff is 35 and 40 spline stuff..
