Yes, yes, I did search. Most/all of the threads seem to be related to the cable or the VSS, but it seems a little too coincidental in my case to fail immediately after pulling the dash apart and replacing the radio. I did pull it back open and do a cursory check of all the harness connectors, and I think everything was already back where it should be. Tach, oil level, temp, etc. on the combo gauge all work fine - just no speedo/odo. In fact, the speedo does register in the first 8-10 kmph but then drops to 0 and stays there. Maybe I "lost" a ground in the radio install process? Does anyone have any similar experience?

I will start diving into the EWD (this is a '95 HDJ81) but figured I'd post here first to see if there was something obvious I'm missing.

Pinched wire or you forgot to reconnect something. Everything is tight on these things and a connector not fully seated is common.

@overpakd
The electric speedometer works at first and then dives to 0? It's likely the speedometer. The circuit traces burn out...pretty common, might give it a check, but it will require pulling the housing apart and removing the speedometer from the housing.

I actually got it working again a couple days ago and hadn't gotten back here to update yet. I just disconnected and reconnected all harness connectors and voila, back in business. Even with the distinct clicks of locking connectors, I must have had a loose connection in there somewhere. All set now thankfully!

Nice! Happy that it isn't the alternative. They're getting more difficult to come by and resoldering usually isn't a permanent fix...other stuff burns up and you're left buying a working used unit.

I've been watching videos about how to hook up my radio and I think that speedometer box is right behind the factory amp . Here is a photo of it . You might have unplugged that wiring harness.
