Why did you go with the DPDT instead of the DPST?

BTW, nice link on the switches.

What all are you trying to do, functionally? Are these only for when you are backing up and you want more light, or when you want more light back there anytime, or what? Seems like you are trying to do some different things with that circuit - it seems kind of complex for auxiliary back-up lights. Do you have a link for that full thread?

Steve,

I thought the same thing at first. Looking at the diagram it allows the aux backup lights to come on with the backup switch off the tranny, and it allows for them to come on remotely from a switch. That's why you need the two relays. I can see the value.

I'm not sure why two relays are needed if it's a dpdt though. One side connects before the backup light switch and one after (?)

Jon, that's right. I want them to be on when in reverse and on when I want them on (setting up camp, tail gaters, etc.). Which is how they have been wired, this new switch is the issue. I want to use this new switch, since I am installing a bank of 6 of these in a single DIN slot under my stereo. I used a DPDT switch since they do not offer a DPST, like I used before.

Update: I can get the switch to work as designed with a single relay. However, the LED's in the switch are not working? I just need to figure out how to get the LED's to light.

Are the LED's polarized correctly?

Well, the diagram shows a DPST switch with two relays. If he uses a DPDT switch then I guess only one relay would need to be used, though I would have to think this through. But, it looks like he figured this out. As far as the LED, usually there is a seperate terminal for switch lighting. Usually it's just a + terminal.

Upon a cursory glance it seems that two relays are being used because if the user wants to turn on the light manually, then power won't backfeed into the Reverse light of the vehicle. If Mike is using a ON-OFF-ON rocker switch, then it should work out great.

edit: if the switches have three LEDs (not sure) then you have to wire the 3rd one to your dash illumination circuit. Possibly the ashtray light or Cig lighter light would work. The other two LEDs will come on as indicator lights when the switch is ON the correct position.

Upon further reading, it appears as though the second relay is simply to turn on the indicator light!

Problem solved, thanks for the help guys.

I just had to figure out how to wire the DPDT switch with a single relay.
