I attempted to lower the spare under my wifes 2002 LX and it appears the gears are stripped or they're not engaging inside the pulley assembly. Has anyone experienced this before?

Anyone have a used spare tire pully assembly for a 100?

How to fix?

Take your running boards off. Put on Slee sliders. Paint your wheels black. Put on a roof rack with lights. Also get a honking big ARB front bumper with auxiliary lights and a bull bar. A Rigid LED light bar preferably. Next, lift your truck, and replace AHC with springs. Put bigger tires on. Then replace your back bumper with a Slee bumper. Get the swing-outs. Put your spare on a swing out.

Make sure these are all 100 series parts, or TrunkMonkey will delete your post.

Dont forget the RTT and fridge, and drawers, and 4.88s, and lockers, and headers, and a new starter.

OK....true, but for the sake of what I have to do to fix my wife's rig.

Any ideas to deal with this issue? Maybe someone that has moved the spare tire from under the truck has the part I need and is looking to sell. I guess the gears are stripped and the unit needs to be replaced. I'm driving to Colorado right after Christmas and would like to have access to my spare tire.

Any other ideas?

cross member is secured by 4 bolts (2 on each side). Unbolt that and the spare tire, crossmember, and lowering mechanism will come down in one piece. You can them go from there.

Easiest way I know of other than just cutting the cable.

I am going to pull mine off to save some weight...you can have it for free if you pay shipping and such. Cold as hell right now but should be able to get it off this week or weekend....if not in a hurry. I am guessing it is the same for 2000 LX as it is for your rig...

I'd appreciate that and I'll put a bit more in that just shipping. I'm planning on driving to Colorado on the 27th to show my kiddo what snow looks like. We don't get much down here in South Texas.

Just let me know when you get it off. Thanks again.

I recommend replacing it with a simple LC model (no locking key). It uses a big coat hangar like hooked end in a big rectangular slot. Is it possible that your "key" is not fitting into the grooves correctly? If you want to lock the LC model, it can be padlocked to the wheel.

Yep, this is the best way. It might be tight with the tire there, but should be doable... Drawing is for LC. Assuming LX is the same. I used pink just for you...

You just need the actual lowering assembly right? Not the cross member that connects to frame....as that is extra weight to ship to you...

Correct. I just need the lowering assembly. I'm going to pull the cross member this afternoon to confirm the issue is just with the lowering assembly. It doesn't look like it could be anything else but I'll confirm just to make sure. Again, thanks for the help!

Yep, the lowering assembly is all jacked up. That's all I need to fix the problem.

I'll be happy to pay for expedited shipping. I'd like to have it installed before christmas so I have a spare for our trip from San Antonio to Colorado. Let me know what works for you. If you PM me your phone number I'll give you a call.

thanks,

Brett Naquin

will get it off this week or weekend to ship out...thoughXMAS may screw up delivery times.

I took JUST the lowering part off this morning...four bolts...less than 5 minute job. I already have a box so tell me where to ship it and if you want it 2nd Day or whatever...that is your dime...I am just happy to pack it up for you and send it on its way.

PM or email me your mail address and I will give you paypal for shipping or you can just send it to me after it arrives...fair enough?
