Has anyone dissassemble the winch that lowers the spare. Mine is frozen solid. I removed the C clip and drove out the eccentric shaft. There are rivets that attach a metal cover for the chain . If I drill these out does the whole thing come apart? Mine needs some serious derust and cleaning to ever work again. Thanks

I am willing to bet you could get a clean one from someone out west shipped to your door for not a lot of cash...

Yes, to remove the chain cover you will need to grind or drill the rivets out. They can be replaced with new rivets; I used copper ones that you can pound with a hammer. Good for you in getting the eccentric out, it was the fight of my life. Essentially ruined my bench vise. I sand blasted mine and then painted it with Rust Bullet.
I don't know whether this is a tip or not, but I greased up mine with anti-seize stuff. It now is working great. It really is a marginal design considering the place that it is located and the dirt and grime it gets. Too close a tolerance I guess.
Good luck.

Soak it with Liquid Wrench a couple times a day & it will come apart. I like the idea of anti-seize!

Took the winch apart today and spent a lot of time cleaning it uo. It was a rusty mess. Luckily this thing is beefy enough that after getting rid of about a pound of rust there is plenty left to make it work. Rust bullet paint and never seize should make it last another 20 years.
