For those that still use the factory spare tire location...What is the correct placement?
Face of the rim facing down or up?

Definitely rim up. Otherwise, you drop the spokes much lower and into the potential bang zone (though you'd really have to screw up to hit the wheel face vs. the tire).

Not to mention dirt, rocks, debris, etc hitting the spare - definitely want the pretty side up and protected ;-)

Definitely facing up:

Just got back from discount tires...I knew it kinda look odd under there with face of the rim towards the ground...so I peaked under the hundo also sure enough it was facing down also arghhh!
Both are fixed now! I need a
Thanks all!

Shocking that tire guys would mount something incorrectly.

With the spare tire faced upward, the valve is also upward and will require lowering the tire to add air.
Has anyone added a valve extension to air up the tire (turn off the TPM) so that the tire does not need to be lowered every it is necessary to check the air?
Any recommendations or creative solutions?

Not sure if a creative solution is necessary. I've done it enough between mods and other things that it's a quick and easy process to winch down the spare. Personally I rather winch it down to fill, than work on my back and fumble upwards. Needing safety glasses too for the sand and debris that may fall downward.

I'll add that it's useful to exercise the winch every so often. They've been known to bind and freeze up, either from corrosion or just non-use.

If I lived in San Diego I would say the same, but I am in Colorado with snow and 35 degrees and a TPMS error.
Think I will go with a short valve extension so I don't have to lower the tire. Thanks!
