I always keep Spam in my emergency gear bag. More often than not, I find myself fishing the can out to use it to satisfy a craving rather than saving it for an emergency. It tastes good at home, but it really tastes good while camping.

... camp oven (that's a Dutch oven to all you UnAustralians) ...
I read that the name came from them being widely distributed in N America by the Dutch East India company,Dutch Oven, Camp Oven/Stove, whatever. There's nothing Dutch about a DO anyway, and too many folks get their wires crossed on the phrase. To me, it's a camp stove with legs, and the legless variety is a "bean pot", to some a Dutch Oven's an enameled pot. I think it makes sense to distinguish the variations.
Anyway, back on track.

WTF is Bully Beef exactly? I like canned Corned beef, the cheap stuff that comes out of S America. And there is a canned beef in gravy we get here in the US that kind of makes me think of well, Mr Ed.Don't like spam and I don't like bully beef - unless...
1. Pig-like product in Blankets: Slice spam into thick portions, coat in batter and shallow fry in oil in a skillet or the bottom of a camp oven (that's a Dutch oven to all you UnAustralians) until golden brown and crispy on the edges.
2. Mock Dog in Blankets: As above but using tinned corned beef.
Serve on a bed of warmed baked beans with salt and pepper to taste with a gum leaf on top for garnish. Quick, easy and satisfying breakfast especially after you've run out of fresh or frozen food on a multi-week camping trip and have to dig into the "iron rations".
Lips and bums be damned - that there's good eating.

Most of the camp ovens/Dutch ovens/whatever we get here are what you would call the bean pot variety. I've cooked a couple of birthday cakes in camp ovens. The frosting was a bit of a failure, but you get that when you're out in the boonies.
Here's a pic of just one of the standard Australian style camp ovens
