Southern half of the state

Hey folks.

the wife and I are taking a driving trip through AZ and the southern part of NM. We've been to ABQ a bunch (have family there) but never been much south of I40, so this time we're gonna check out LC and Carlsbad, etc.

Any suggestions on sites to see, places to eat, etc?

Any ideas are welcome.

I'm not sure what we're driving yet, maybe a Benz, and maybe the 80.

There's a wheelin trip in AZ on the way through, so maybe the 80.



Also willing to meet up for a beer and/or dinner if anyone's up for it.

We're leaving here probably this Thursday, meandering through the CA desert and a day or two in AZ, then into NM so probably middle of next week we'll be there.

Carlsbad caverns is a great place to check out. The guided tours are awesome so make reservations if you're wanting a tour.

You can also look for aliens in Roswell!

and I'll add Living Desert State Park, also in Carlsbad.

3rd on the Caverns. stay till evening to see the bats come out. that's a cool sight!

The Black Range between Silver City and Truth or Consequences is a beautiful drive. Go north from there through the Gila Wilderness makes a spectacular trip. Make sure you bring home some Hatch Green Chile (although you're going to be too early for fresh, canned is almost as good).
