More for discussion...staging point looks like Little Rock Arkansas or Oklahoma City OK might work?

Travel time to Ouray from:

OK City, OK -- 13 hours

Dallas, TX -- 15 hours

Little Rock, AR -- 18 hours

Monroe, LA -- 19 hours

Atlanta, GA -- 25 hours

Releigh, NC -- 30 hours

Great group size. I'm really looking forward to getting out to meet you guys.

Still thinking we should coordinate our trip around JonHarris' Aug 9-11 (FRI-SUN) run in Ouray.

Most of us will be looking at 1.5 to 2 days of travel. Maybe meet at our staging location on August 6th or 7th? Get there on the 8th, settle in, make an easy run or two. Meet up with the CO group on the 9th. Start the trip back down south on the 12th. Make it a Tues-to-Tues trip, Wed-to-Tues trip, etc?

Just throwing things out there for discussion. Hopefully most of the 27 people in the below list subscribed to the thread.

So is Aug 9-11th the date? I have my summer schedule filling up and that weekend would work for me. I just need my sliders installed before then :steer:

That's the dates for the CO group's run, yes. I for one think we definitely need to schedule around that!

There will be a few of us in Ouray in July if anyone wants to join in.

I would think we def need to pick a staging city west of the Mississippi, yes. That way we can all meet up and make the rest of the trek as a group. It really depends on where most of us are coming from. If most of the group is from further south, then somewhere along I-20 makes sense. If most of the group is from a little more northern location, then somewhere along I-40 would work as well. I'd be glad to go a little out of my way to meet up...

I'm looking forward to it as well, have already started prepping the 100. On that note, sometime in the spring I'm making the trip to ATL so ACC can convert me from AHC to traditional suspension. Will have to hook up then.

I plan on rolling I20, so the ATL guys could roll through here and we would just start collecting trucks as we go :steer:

Are you saying we should join his trip? If so, your dates are wrong. It is listed aas being July 17-21 for the FJSummit

Different trip. There is another run on the dates above. Much smaller, 100s only.

^This. I'm involved with both events so that may have caused the confusion. The FJ Summit registration is currently open, if you can't make the other trip I'd recommend you check out the summit! Fjsummit.org

The 100s in the Hills event is much smaller and your trip will coincide with it. Its 100s only and on the 9-11. I expect we will see 15-25 total vehicles.

This is looking like it will be fun. Hope all these guys can make it.

Hopefully everyone in the list subscribed to the thread.

If you did and are still interested, post up!

The oldest and I have plans for a trip this summer. We've focused on Utah in late May/early June, but perhaps "safety in numbers" will have us in Colorado. This trip looks like fun.

:hmm:

This looks interesting. NTSaint, how come you arent in any toyota 4x4 clubs down here?

Short answer? Time.

Plus I'm in Monroe and such a thing doesn't exist here...

Cool. I think Shreveport may be a pretty good meeting point, or slightly further west.

Is everyone camping or staying in cabins? Are the trails day trips or overnight excursions?

Can't speak for anyone else but I'm planning on hotels on the commute, camping once there.

So here is where I am with this trip. I’d like to go. I was already planning a trip to southern Utah in early June with my oldest son. My plan was to meet a college buddy from Tuscan but his interest may be cooling. Being the case, it is obviously not a good idea to go with only one rig and it would be great to have a hundy trip with all the MUD guys.

My issue is time. I can do it, but if possible, I’d rather not spend 4 days driving (there and back) with only 3 days of playing. Just seem more like a marathon than an adventure.

So just throwing out a few numbers here, comparing flying out and towing vs. driving back and forth.

1,660 miles from Atlanta to Ouray

$3.6 gallon at 14mpg
1,660/14 x 3.6 is basically $425 for gas (seems cheap, bet it would be more).
Cheap hotel for two nights, $100.
Added together, $525 to drive to Ouray (assuming I pack food).
So out there and back, $1050

Airfare from ATL to Montrose (MTJ) on August 8th, one way, is $257 according to google flight search.
Tow form ATL to Montrose or Ouray, estimated $800 (more? less?)
Added together, 1,100 +/- total to Ouray
Trip home, $525
$1,625 to fly out and drive home.

Now it may be possible to save a lil money on the tow if done in tandem or event with three to four rigs at once. Anyone moderately interested in sharing a tow? :D
