You can also mix and match various Toyota axle parts to get a stock width axle. My FJ60's rear axle is a combination of an FZJ80 center section and Tacoma outers with a few pieces of 3.25 x .250 DOM thrown in the mix.

As for the front I'm running IFS hubs and Tundra brakes (13WL). I wouldn't bother with the Tacoma stuff as it's not bigger than the FJ60 stuff.

I'm not sure where you are exactly, but I put in a Compton zip code and there are several in the $400 range in that area. More for locked versions.

Or find a junker and a friend with a forklift

I'd offer even less. There was one near me that a friend found and they said they'd let it go for much less than the list price. Cash in hand at the counter talks I'm sure.

Thanks for all the info. The ability to run disk in the rear is a nice addition.

Knowing that the 80 axle wont accept 15 inch rims isn't a problem for me. I run 16's.

You can run 15" wheels on a FF 80 rear and the front is a non-issue. You just have to grind the rear calipers down a bit. I don't know about stock 60 wheels but 3.5" of b/s works with some grinding. Only reason I can see doing it though, and the reason I did it, is that tires are cheapest in the 15" wheel variety.

In Texas "Pull a Parts" are your best friend for stuff like this. I'm sure there are some in California as well. You could snag an axle w/o the diff for ~$150 hub to hub... Takes a while to find what your looking for and you might have to drive but you end up saving mucho dinero!

But don't take a road trip to Texas to find one because I am on the hunt as well for an fjz80 rear axle!

Not a 60 series, but i have a FF 80 axle in the rear of my Tacoma and i found it at a junkyard using car part.com. Love it, the truck stops on a dime and i love having the security of a FF rear since i don't trailer my truck to and from the trails. I paid 400 for mine. The worst part about the swap is cutting the brackets off, it SUCKED with a sawzall and a 4" grinder.

See don't necessarily want to go that route. I was hoping someone had a "stock-ish" setup that they just added the FZJ80 axle too. But always seems like everyone goes SOA and my wife has a hard enough time getting in now (she is 5' on a good day) so at that point she would need a trampoline or step ladder to get in.

If you don't want the flex for offroading (this is why I am going chevy springs), then why don't you just get some custom springs made that are flat?

This would keep your SUA lower while maintaining a nice ride. Your wife would appreciate both.
