Shovel Cover -- Med-Tech Resource Inc. Online Store

I emailed them asking about availability - but I thought I would check here also.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the cover? I want to use it with a standard "hardware store" spade shovel, for when I need to carry the shovel inside my 80. Right now I have a split piece of fuel hose covering the edges, but that is less than elegant and it doesn't protect against rust staining....

Is there another source, or another similar product?

Thanks.

That cover cost more than my shovel lol
Maybe that is why it was discontinued. The vendor replied to my email and gave me the manufacturer, but there is no sign of covers on their website. Rule Number One for product sales - do not price an accessory higher than the cost of the part it is supposed to go with.... I think a realistic price is less than US$10.

I wonder what it would take to make one from sheet PVC? It would be easy enough to cut the two pieces, and you could pop rivet the edges together. I've never worked with this stuff - comments anyone?

Or would Kydex be better? You could heat the blade in the wife's oven and lay the Kydex sheet on top and it would self form to the curves, or you could use an industrial heat gun....

I can get a 12" x 48" piece of .060" Kydex locally for $24.....

Rule #1 of domestic tranquility, never call it the "wife's oven", by extension this applies to all domestic appliances; clothes washer/dryer, iron, toaster etc.

Rule #2 never used said oven for car parts, this includes heating differential ring gears or bearings.

Rule #3 never wash hub caps or other car parts in the dishwasher. You can however use the clothes iron to apply edge banding to wood projects, don't ask me why.

I learned these rules the hard way don't repeat my mistakes.

If you decide to go with kydex wait for the SO to be gone for the day and use the BBQ to heat the shovel.

I think you could use and old antifreeze bottle and a soldering iron set on low to weld something up. Maybe add a few rivets to reinforce the seams.

.

can i call it the hubbies oven since he does all the cooking?

since it's his oven not mine, can i still cook car parts in there?

so i can't do "car parts" in the dishwasher, but are motorcycle engines ok, especially if it's a roommates engine?

You should know by now the rules are different for men and wimmens. :flipoff2:

Why exactly does the shovel need to be protected while it rides inside a carpeted Cruiser wagon???

If it is the interior of the rig that needs to be protected, wrap a rag around the shovel, or get a burlap bag or one of the woven plastic bags that have largely replaced them. Cost all of a nickle or so each.

Mark...

LOL .... I am trying to keep the interior from getting slashed or rust stained. I already have the edge covered with split fuel line, but it doesn't stay on very well.

A rag is so .... Third World. This 80 is my toy, my lover, my ongoing project. I don't mind spending both time and small amounts of money on little projects like a First World shovel cover.

There you go. Mud comes through once again, and the price is OK, unfortunately shipping and tax doubles the price. I'll keep this one in mind, but I may still get some Kydex and mold my own, and I can play with holster designs too with what is left over....

You can heat/mold kydex with a hairdryer set to HI (for small pieces) but your best bet would be a heat gun. Preferably one with different tips and adjustable heat (I have a rather large one left from when I would shrink-wrap pallets).

Call General Fire in town, they may stock that item. If not we have a couple of forestry companies. That would at least save you shipping.

You could find a local shop to make one out of canvas or leather possibly.

I cut the leg off of an old pair of jeans and sewed the end shut, I keep my folding shovel and saw in it.

For my work we carry multiple shovels in our vehicles and these are shovels that get regularly sharpened. In 10 years Ive never seen a shovel cut interior fabric. To keep the rust down keep the shovel clean. Plus a cover could trap moisture leading to rust. Dont knock the third world man, its where people live and breath K.I.S.S.
