Long story short, chasing a drone on the gas around 55-70, vehicle is fairly new to me and noticed it doesn't have the passenger side vibration dampener. I have read a long thread about this same drone and it makes me want to try putting that vibration dampener on to see if that works. The vehicle has brand new oem front and rear driveshafts in that fixed a very bad vibration. (slip yokes were worn) I have no idea if this lx has ever had the dampener on it. Previous owner removed the running boards and maybe he took the dampener off. Does anyone have one laying around they would be willing to send me? I cant seem to find one anywhere. Thanks

I’m sure you could scoop one up for dirt cheap at a junkyard...

EDIT: just realized you’re in Ophir. So no junkyards with 100s anywhere close! Maybe post a Wanted adin the MUD classifieds, or search junkyards on the front range.

My 06 LX came with a dampener on the driver side, but not one on the passenger side.

Do you not have any installed on either side?

My '06 didn't have one on either side. Did they come factory installed? I thought it was something that was added later for those that brought their trucks in when the service letter was sent out.

It’s always possible that Lexus bolted it on at some point after I bought it, but I don’t recall complaining about the issue.

I did purchase my vehicle well after the TSB (TSB 11/2005 vs my purchase date of 5/2006).

If you’re lucky you can find the rare TRD version. Boosts HP and lowers gas mileage.

Not sure what you mean by: on the gas is that accelerating "chasing a drone on the gas around 55-70",

Some 1998 – 2006 model year Land Cruiser vehicles may exhibit an exhaust booming
noise after the vehicle reaches operating temperature at idle with the vehicle stopped and
the transmission in the “D” range. The following procedures have been developed to
correct this condition.

Assuming you've the engine well tuned, have base-lined all fluids and filters. Look to spark and fuel delivery.

I've found when all is recondition and working at 100% with exception of coils. I get slight hesitations as I floor accelerating through 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 MPH. I replace coils with new Denso, which cleans it up.

Aftermarket muffler replacement? Check that the damper is on the exhaust pipe at the rear of the muffler.

I took mine off long ago. Never noticed any difference, except the unsightly thing is no longer protruding.

I am pretty familiar to driveline vibrations and drones and can 99% say it is a rotational/vibration that is causing this drone. By "on the gas" I mean, while the load of the engine is light to moderate. Under normal to heavy acceleration, there is no drone. While coasting there is no drone. Only under light load, maintaining a speed 55-65ish on flat ground is there a pulsing-drone. I have baseline serviced the whole vehicle and it is running great for 210,xxx. I think it could be related to some worn rubber bushing and mounts (transmission mount, front diff mounts, rear upper and lower trailing arms) or even front cv axles. I was just hoping to find some cheep frame dampeners to try out cuz they might be the cheapest option to try 1st. And it seem like it might be such a weird pulsing/drone that took some extensive engineering/diagnostics by Toyota to figure out some frame dampening is all that is needed. I have had plenty of bad u-joints, muffler resonance, tire vibrations, freak weird ball joint/bushing vibrations on other trucks to know this is not quite one of those symptoms. Lots of good threads here about driveline vibrations to make me wanna give the strange frame dampener a try.

I see!

I also keep these rigs as stock as I can, which includes the weight. But your case has nothing to do with the reason Toyota came out with the TBS (weight and exhaust alteration) as the TSB clearly states: "vehicle reaches operating temperature at idle with the vehicle stopped and the transmission in the “D” range".

What is interesting about your expanded explanation is: "While coasting there is no drone" A test I like to do is coast down mountain passes. If I've a bearing issue like in the spiders. I'll here wow wow wow or some may call "droning" as I coast. You don't hear it during coast. So not likely bearing related.

I don't see this as rubber bushing either. Cruising at 55 on flat ground your not really working the bushing.

Have you change out gear lube from the 3 gear boxes yet and with what weight. Did you inspect old lube and magnets.

@2001LC Thanks for the input.
I have changed the gear oil in all 3 gear boxes with 75w-90 full synthetic. I did not see any unusual amount of shavings in any of the oil. I definitely see how this could be a bearing issue in one of the gearboxes but really hoping it isn't. It drives nice and smooth but there is a small clunk in the front end, likely the worn out front diff mount. I know I am sensitive to noises like this but it annoying me and I know how these can compound to other worn out parts.

@yukon Thanks. I am pretty free tomorrow so I could meet you somewhere. It shouldn't take me long to see if it works, it is pretty easy to duplicate.

I was thinking gears of gear boxes, not so much bearings when I asked about gear lube. If bearings, I'd expect the wow, wow, wow when coasting.

Number one front clunk when going from D-N-R, is hub flange to axle play. Very easy to check for.

Check your snap ring gap also.
Snap ring to wheel hub flange gap, is excessive in this 100 series.

The exhaust frame resonance(“booming”) is a noticeable thing-in that sound/frequency travels through the frame at certain rpms- mostly noticeable to me at highway speed. You can notice it as a subtle hollow drone not a vibration while on the gas 65-75 mph. Making it worse, I have steel rear bumper, slee steel belly skid, aluminum intermediate and front skids that Im sure contributes even more , also a 24” magnaflow muffler and oem resonator still attached. I have installed some rubber exhaust line isolators which helps- but Id be interested to see if the frame weight would do since mine never came with it.

Just curious if this frame dampener is something that could be fabricated? Is it just steel?
It is steel. I was planning on pulling mine off this weekend and can weigh it for you. There are two rubber washers up top but I don't know what they do since they are loose.
