ok i took my heavy ass roof rack off awhile ago and now i get a sound. i drove to phx and on semi hard acceleration theres a low grumbling sound most deff mecanical i cant really tell where its comming from but it sounds kinda like engine or tranny. It doesnt happen all the time but when it does happen you can deff hear it. the closest thing i can think of that the sound resembles is that of a mud flap dragging on a moving tire. the rpms are pretty high when it does it like 4 grand i think. other then that i cant figure it out.

Any ideas?

sorry for the vaugeness ill try and asnwer any thing else u need to know.

thanks mike

Mike,

I generally don't even respond to this type of post - the absolute minimal information possible type. From the numbers, it is clear others feel the same. Speaking for myself, reading that someone will "answer all questions" is pretty lame.

If you want information vs an online chat thread of questions and answers, then for cryin' out loud lift a finger and tell us what's going on.

alright i'll guess its a wheel bearing. does the sound happen when you are in a slight turn? more info please

My turn to make a WAG...you don't mention if you have a lift installed, but if so, perhaps by removing your "heavy a$$" roof rack you have introduced too much angle into your driveline. Does the noise happen when you lift the throttle at speed?
Good luck.

By the sig line I'd say no lift, 'cause everything else the truck has is listed. Wheel bearing is my only guess. I had a bad wheel bearing on my '98 4Runner and the sound reminded me of a mud flap on a tire as you describe. Dumb Arse Toyota covered it under warranty, but replaced 3 of the 4 corners becasue they couldn't figure out which one it was.

Good luck.

come to think of it i do remeber it happening on turns so wheel bearing it could be. Ill et u know what else i find.
is a wheel bearing a red flag? should i get it fixed right away?
i dont wanna fawk anything else up.

thanks
mike

if it is a bad wheel bearing it can take the spindles with it ($$$) bad birf will click/clunk during turns also

Maybe it's a mud flap dragging on a moving tyre.

Cheers,
Sean
