I just bought an fj80 1992 from tx with absolutely no rust and only 102k miles. It looks brand new. Given that I have a 100, I wanted to make this into a diesel vehicle.
Dont have the time to spend so looking for someone with the skills and parts to get the stuff and do the swap for me.
Drop me a pm if you have have done swaps in the past and want to do take on this task.
Any leads for getting this done reasonably would also be appreciated.
Thanks

LOL, I suggest a slightly more involved approach.

There are a few places that can do this. You are looking at significantly more than 20k if you just want to drop off your gasser and pick up a diesel (with a semi-modern toyota engine).

cheers,
J

I'm in the middle of a conversion right now! And have been since jan 2011!!! Yes 10 months ago and still not even close to finished.. You need to 1. Be very clear what your intended use is and 2. even more do your homework in regards to who you hire to do the job. Anyone (semi mechaniclly inclined) can do it. But it will take fore ever because they wont know what they need, and cost a lot more $ because they will have to redo it at your expense. So hire someone who has done many of them and does them with the engine your wanting. And yes converting a gas to diesel is totally diff than droping a chevy crate engine. Unfortunately for me. My god I wish I knew this 10 months ago. And my personal exp. Stay away from cruiser parts.net

If you are interested in factory stuff, as in 1HD-T/A440F out of a 92 JDM HDJ81 I can help..
If you want a clean factory looking conversion done I can probably help there too..
and significantly less than 20k

i am in the process of installing a 2H turbo, H55F into a 91 FJ80. the owner wanted quick, easy, relatively cheap.
i will have a thread up sometime in the new year. the basic install will be finished this week.

I am sure you are correct. I was thinking rebuilt everything and plenty new parts as that what had to do in the end.
Don't listen to me....
Cheers

And i counted the price of the base truck. So basically, i am an idiot.

if you want it done right and clean then Sheldon is your man, if i was hiring someone to do a proper HDT conversion on a post 93 FZJ80 or 100 series that is who i WOULD hire to do the job.

i have seen his work in person, top notch is an understatement.

Aww shucks, Wayne...now you're making me blush.

Gotcha.. yea, if you rebuild EVERYTHING you can really run the price up as you are probably aware.
We find that for the most part the JDM stuff isn't too hammered and just needs some servicing on things like injectors, BEBs, new timing belts and some general baselining, not too often full rebuilds of Engine/Tranny.

Buying a worthy 80 series AND doing a Toyota diesel engine swap, AND rebuilding everything along the way.. definitely more than 20k. But I suppose it depends on what you consider a worthy 80, and diesel worthy of the swap.

i was about to say that i have heard noting bad about Lynch's work...

The HDJ81 engine/tranny and misc swap parts I have here are on hold for a customer now, so I won't be able to help anymore.

Chris- did you personally do that conversion?
