solid front axle conversion on newer mini?

do you know if the transmission on the tundra v6 is the same as the one on the v6 4x4 taco? I read on the ttora site that there is a problem with trying to change a 2x4 v8 tundra to 4x4, the 2x4 has a different trani. but the 2x4 v6 tundra might match up to taco 4x4 stuff. my 2002 2x4 v6 is paid for and i'm wondering if its possible to go sfa 4x4.

I don't know for a fact but I would assume it would be the same transmission mated to all the 3.4 v6. If that is the case, maybe even the T100 too? Not positive if the T100 has a passenger or driver side transfer?

I question the value of that drivetrain in a full size 1/2 ton truck, especially when you add weight of heavier components to the truck. You will also be forging into unknown territory, with some people having done similar conversions on their Pre-runner 4x2 Tacomas but nobody doing the same thing on your truck.
You have a truck that is paid for and I assume good condition. I would consider selling it and buying something that already has most of the components you are looking for, i.e. 4x4 drivetrain.
Now if you are an above average mechanic and fabricator with tons of free time and a desire to do a big project then disregard and go for it.

an access cab 4x4 v6 taco only weighs about 50 pounds more than the v6 regular cab tundra, so adding a few hundreds more pounds should not be that bad. Yea I know the v6 tundra gets the royal snub, but it's not that bad. I can wait for a out of the box sfa conversion "kit". Besides I'm not that keen on finding a used v8 tundra 4x4, all the ones I have seen around here have been dogged.
I guess what I'm thinking is nobody will ever offer a "kit" to SAS the Tundra. There have only been like 10 or less SAS Tundras total. I think you will have to research the whole thing yourself and decide what will work for you.
I don't know if you've tried Tundra Solutions? Maybe some of the SAS guys hang out on that forum?

yea i'm not holding my breath for the sas "kit". I can't get on the tundra solutions site, they want money before you can look and i'm not paying for something i can not see.

beaufort-fj60, you should give them a call and talk to them. I bought sliders from them and had no complaints and I've seen some of their other work in person. Top notch stuff.
Where you at? Frydaddy just picked up a SAS 91 with a V6. He will be in the process of fixing the stuff that was done wrong. Break lines and gussets. stuff like that. I thik he just plans to sell it.
If not with some research you can make your own SAS. I did mine myself over 5 years ago. No real problems with it.
If you get a Solid axle truck, you have a weak steering setup, and limited travel do to the torque rod. Money will eventualy be spent on an IFS steering box, and that setup. SO your halfway to the money spent on the SAS.
