Just noticed that northern tool has an 8w solar powered lamp on sale.
Seems like it would be a good addition to a cruiser on longer trips: you can have light in your rooftop tent or inside the rig (or even a regular tent, i guess) without the worries of accidentally forgetting and draining your truck's battery.

If getting one down to CR wasn't such a hassle, I'd try it out.

At $36 bucks, it isn't much of a risk.
 
i don't think there's any risk with solar power. i'd even opt to dish out the extra money to get the flexible ones that roll up, easy storage with roof top tents or ez awns.
 
I just gave two of those tp my dad for X-mas. Another good thing about them is that they use 2 AA size rechagible batteries so if they die on you you can replace pretty easy.
