All,

I'm shamelessly canvassing (hah!) the collective ih8mud mind for information on Soft Tops for the Troopy.

I doubt I'll take on this project 'til later in the year but that's o.k. as it would take a ton of fabrication so slow and steady is going to win the race on this one.

To that end, can anyone enlighten me (or link me) to posts on:

  • Placement/fabrication of bows for a Troopy?
  • Specs/explanation of the attachment of a soft top to the piece above the windshield?
  • Placement/fabrication of a soft top? (I'm inclined to make my own, inspired by the thread from "AntFJ" documenting his '40 soft top build.
  • Methods of attachment on the sides (any way to avoid drilling/mounting brackets on each side?)
  • Thoughts on full roll cage vs. bows only vs. cage AND bows.

Some images below as inspiration. Thanks in advance for any help y'all can offer.

Best,
Evan

Hood Bows.

Here is the set i made out of 3/4 gal water pipe. They took abour 8 hours to do,. The fildiest bits were making the little plates and drilling the holes.
i had an genuine set that i photgraphed and mesured, but when i put the canvas top on and it fitted like a glove even i was impressed.
They arn't to hard to make if you are fairly handy with a pipe bender.
I think the Aussie army bows are different to standard.
It will look better when i get the new top.
