Man, that's tempting for that 62 sitting next to my barn...
I remember you saying an H55 might go into that baby... Best price from anyone else like cruiser brothers or cruiser outfitters, including freight, is +1k. Sorry man 😂

Just tried to buy one...says it's no longer available. I'll keep searching.

An H55F for that price would have been nice 😂

For anyone on this thread, I’m trying to get rid of a 2F Toyota engine for a reasonable cost. It was the one that came out of my 60 prior to the Vortec engine swap. It needs work, I know it needs a head gasket. But I’m not sure what else it’ll need. If you’re interested please PM me and we’ll go from there.

Hi All,

Just joined today but my son has talked about this forum. I've gotta do a radiator swap out.

I picked up a '97 LX450 last year with just under 200k on it and am from the Grand Rapids area.

Was on my way to work in Belmont and lost my radiator.

I've made a few calls around and Lexus quoted me $1000 for the job with a loaner car since I've got full coverage. Got a quote from a radiator shop that gave me a price of 600-800. The dealer said that it takes about 3 hours labor at $130 an hour.

Anyone have any other shops that do good work on Toyota 80 series? I also looked through the different threads on radiators and what to replace it with and have a couple of ideas.

Any suggestions about repairs?

Nate

Welcome @Natcruiser

Bummer about the radiator. I wouldn't trust the Lexus dealer over a radiator shop, but that doesn't mean I'd trust either. Unfortunately the Cruiser mechanic scene here in Michigan is tough. There are a few folks on here from GR, maybe they'll chime in with recommendations.

Good luck, hope you get back on the road soon, and come join the summer Michigan get together (see the thread in this forum).

Once the 40 awakens from its winter sleep I need to figure out if the chirping sound is the alternator or water pump approaching failure
Need to find some of those rubber grommets that go around holes in the body work where wiring passes through
get speedo working
winch maintenance
rattles within doors
add expanded metal floor in roof rack
ambulance door seals
I reread my post and wondered what the hell I was thinking knowing most of that list won't get completed. I also remembered I was cycling in and out of fever with covid and probably not lucid. That's my story and I'm staying with it.

Welcome Nate. Sorry to hear about your radiator and like @cheezypoof said, there isn’t a lot (read zero) of Cruiser shops. Honestly if the radiator shop seems like they care, it probably is all good. It is not that hard of a job. Read up on baselining in the 80 forum and maybe consider digging in at another not too far off time and doing a larger cooling system refresh/pm and other stuff all 80’s need by now. Glad you are with the group!

I’m trying to get my gm 14b rear hubs and a tcase front output flange back from a machinist who couldn’t finish them so I can find another machinist to finish them.

The hubs are being reworked from 8-on-6.5 to 6-on-5.5 and the tcase flange is being reworked to use a Yota CV joint for my twin-stick np-205.

The concept

Thanks dogfishlake,

I've orded the TYC -1918 that arrived yesterday and I am going to get towed to my dad's house so I can work in my dad's garage in Comstock Park to work on it while he's down south enjoying the warm weather in Atlanta. I can tear into it after work today and see how far I can get and hopefully get things figured out by the weekend.

Picked up an oil pump cover seal and a distributor o'ring to work on as well while I have the radiator out of the car. Done a little bit of work in the past but this will be my first attempt at something with the 80 series and I'm hoping things will go smooth enough.

Nate,
Not trying to pile on with additional suggestions but I'd replace the radiator hoses, clamps and thermostat while doing this job. ed

I was going to say the same as @TCEd. And if you're removing the crank pulley for the oil cover gasket definitely do the front main seal too, you'll have done all the hard work to reveal it and it's a $20 part. I'm slowly stockpiling parts and waiting for a warmish weekend to take this job on myself, with a few extras thrown in (the 2 pulleys on my motor are super crusty). In case it helps:

Sounds great. Follow the fsm and it will go well. Those oil pump screws can suck. They are actually JIS and not phillips but if that is all you have try using a 1/4” ratchet to drive the bit. The added leverage makes a big difference. I agree with Ed, do the hoses and thermostat too (toyota genuine). It is really pretty easy. Watch the little nipple on the radiator for the bypass, that sucker is fragile.

Good luck!

Seems like I should host a work weekend and we all get our projects done in one weekend.

I’ll supply the bourbon.
👍👍👍
