Disconnecting the battery cable(s) while a vehicle is running is a common trick to test if your generator/alternator was working properly on older, pre-computer cars/trucks. Now I am NOT NOT NOT recommending anyone do this to their trucks. I only did it because the question came up in one of my product threads but I felt it was good info to share and have it's own thread.

Again, I am doing this so you don't have to nor should you.

This topic seems to come up every once in a while in conversation and I used my past experience to dictate the answer. But I realized I only ASSUMED it for the 80 Series. Well in order to confirm what happens I went ahead and recorded it. This way everyone can see what happens and will then negate the need to do it themselves.

Now, a caveat, I've done a LOT of rewiring on my truck but I am fairly certain that this will net the same affect on even stock trucks.

You can see in the video but basically I needed to know for certain:
• Truck running, what if you disconnect the positive cable?
- what happens on restart?
• Truck running, what if you disconnect the ground cable?
- what happens on restart?
• Truck running, what if you disconnect both the positive and ground?

Care to guess BEFORE you watch the video?

Basically, it basically did what I figured it would do. Do I win anything? That's basically the only reason I posted. :flipoff2:

Basically I need to expand my vocabulary...basically. :p

Yeah, so you're a member of the Department of Redundancy Department. So what?

Anyone care to explain whats going on here? It seems odd to me that it shuts off when both cables are removed but is fine with only 1 cable connected.

It Appears to turn your valve cover red, because mine is silver and I have only run it with the battery in.

My clock resets to 12:00. And my clock has an alarm and yours doesn't! :flipoff2:
