well, I had my first productive weekend on mine.

installed carb, fuel line to pump, factory throttle and choke cables since mine had aftermarker crap, NOS primer fuel pump, installed SOR repro speedo cable. Speedo actually works again!!!, stripped the flat black paint off of my headlight bezels, installed the windshield vent knob (what a bitch), stole the underdash light out of the 45LV and put it in the 25 (still needs to be wired), adjusted the drivers seat all the way back, bolted up the horns (still have to wire them), installed tthe repro pedal pad covers, and started body work on the air filter.

The best part is that I actually drove it around the neighborhood for the first time!!! As soon as my data tag shows up, I'll be off to the DMV to get her registered and legal

Mike, are you taking that 25 down to CMCC? The best set of headlight rings I've found were hiding under old paint. :D

Me, I spent about twelve hours on the windshield vent gasket. :mad:

Now, I know I've made gaskets and replaced these things in the past on other cruisers but I never remember anything like this. The gasket retainer (flange)is spot welded to the outside flap? They must be bolted together on the 40's or something, because the aftermarket gasket from SOR has holes in the center where you need a large rectangular hole to stretch it over the flange for the 25.

So after cleaning the old gasket out of the groove, trimming the hole out in the new gasket (test fitting about ten times) I put the thing together upside down so the vent wouldn't close. :doh:
 
yep, I'll be trailering her to CMCC, but just for show and cruising around town. I wont have a cage or tires for it yet so no trail time. Only things left are to get the air filter done, water pump, tail lights, figure out why the headlight switch is flaky, and a few other oddball things and call it good for now.
 
I rounded up parts for the whole day Saturday and moved one back to Phoenix Sunday to work on.

I found out that the back bows for the later forties are a little different than the ones on the twenty-five.

Used a grinder to remove the channel iron bumper off the front. If your using the stock brackets than way not just drill and bolt instead of welding :mad: Found the frame cracked on both sides by the front shackle mount :crybaby: This one is off a ranch from southern Arizona and it's has had a rough life. No rust though :) The PO must have spent a fortune on the body work.

Decided to install a fourty tailgate because of the license plate bracket. The license plate is to easy to tear off on the stock one. This ones going to be my trail rig. Silver soldered the screw holes from old snaps across the top. Now to primer and paint.

Brought a knob for the wind shield vent, was going to replace the rubber gasket but now i don't know. Thanks Jim :rolleyes:
 
I attacked my fluids this weekend, including changing the oil in the 25 and on my garage floor after I realized I didn't have a replacement drain plug gasket.

Rebuilt the clutch master cylinder and adjusted slave (wow-what a difference now). New air filter. Refurbished letters on dash knobs and stick shift and now they look TOO new (should've mixed a little yellow into the white paint).

I also moved my seat back and added an additional two inches to that with a pair of home-fabbed extension brackets. Painted and installed hood hooks, bumperettes and pintle hook. Repainted pedals after the mess the leaky clutch cylinder did on them. And, tracked down the rest of the electrical shorts in the lighting and turn signals.

I've got a late model roll bar with your name on it.........air down those NDT's to 5#........buy a kidney belt and you're good to go! :crybaby:

Did you get tail light brackets? Can't have a 25 sporting trailer lights at a Cruiser event. :o

Yes I got tail light brackets :) I need to blast them, fix a small weld, and get em on.

I was just about to post some pics of the weekend's work when I saw this, but I wouldn't be able to handle the embarrassment of my trailer lights. DON'T LOOK AT ME . . . . I'M HIDEOUS! :crybaby: :crybaby:
 
I opened the rear swing out doors to see if I had room to store some tires in there. Nope. The '72 GMC gets all my time these days.

Jim, I need to pack up your stuff. Unfortunately the box is way too short. I'll figure something out. At least I don't have to worry about damaging the parts :).

You exercised the doors......and at least they didn't fall off when you opened them. :D
 
FJ25 windshield / Head Light Rings

Hey Guys,

I just bought my FJ25 and want to change some old parts with the better ones. So I am wondering if you guys can help me out in this. Right Now I am looking for a windshield with rubber stripping/ wiper moters and chrome rings goes around headlights.

Hi Archie! Glad to see you made it here! Post a picture of your 25 in the owner's thread (or send it to me at 1960fj25 at sbcglobal.net and I'll post it for you) Always want to see more 25's!!! Parts are tough, but not impossible, you need patience.

Wiper Motors - Originals were vacuum operated - very hard to find.

Headlight rings - Same story.....Land Cruiser Junky used a set from a jeep I think and they look OK.

Windshield and gasket is the same as the early 40. Aftermarket gasket (and locking strip) you can get from SOR. Local glass place should be able to cut a windshield for you.

I am wondering if I can use M38A1 wiper moters on this??? "Beachwood Canvas" is selling them with both the options (Vacuum operated or electric 12V) WHICH ONE IS THE BETTER ONE? Do you think windshield from 69-72 windshield will fit in mine?

Welcome aboard!

My 25 came with the TNK electric wiper motors, which I understand were a popular electric replacement for the vacuum units. But, the dead TNKs are in need of rebuilding and I'm running the JC Whitney motors and blade arms until then. Fit fine and work great.
