Ketchinkan, AK--2000 Being stationed on a 110' Coast Guard Cutter was the best thing that could happen to my 18yr old smart ass. For the previous 2 years I had been shot at and missed, s*** on and hit--it was a wild ride in the Gulf of Alaska. One day I got orders to go back home to Florida and I decided I needed a rig that was a bit more dependable than my old Jeep to get me back. I had seen a 62 in the used lot at a local dealership and decided to check it out. Much to my surprise the salesman threw me the keys and said be back in an hour--wow was that a mistake!!! Honestly I did not mean to get her stuck on my first test drive but hey, it happens! It was January, in Alsaka, and somehow the front axle came to rest on a large stump barried under several feet of snow. Long story short, my cruiser went through a lot of nasty stuff that day before it came to rest on the stump and the next day I bought it from that salesman for way to much money. It was the first car I had ever bought without any help from my folks, I was 20 yrs old.
Since that day my cruiser and I have been trough a lot together, I ended up driving her 5,000 miles home from Alaska, making out in the back seat with every Canadian girl that would let me along the way. It has been a wonderful, wonderful truck. This Sunday I will celebrate my 1yr anniversary with my lovely wife and one year since I decided to sell the cruiser. I know you are all sreaming in angst and disgust, but hear me out. I put her in the paper for one full week and got exactly one call from a 16yr old Paris Hilton type, needless to say she was not a serious buyer. I decide to hold on to her a little longer and for the past several months she has been in my father-in-laws auto shop getting tuned up whenever somebody gets a free chance. After this weekend I am bringing my fine Japenese lady home and the fun is gonna begin. I just found this site while I was surfing the web during a boring Public Relations lecture at the University of Florida (go gators!), and all my cruiser karma is at a very high level--I have decide to drive her till I die.
All of you seem like really down to earth nice folks and I look forward to picking your brains and helping anybody else out with the few tips I have picked up over the six years of cruiser ownership. I apologize for the length here, but I am a History major, and being long winded is my thing, again--sorry. Anyway, this is my first thread and if you guys help me out a little I will promise to make them a lot shorter from here on out. I own a 1989 FJ-62 Landcruiser and I sure am glad I found you guys! Thanks for the open ears---Adam
