So I think the Michelin Defender is the perfect all-terrain tire... (For most of us) (5 Viewers)

Just swapped out brand new k02s (about 1k) for the brand new Michelin Defender LTX MS2 that just came out utilizing the DT 100% satisfaction guarantee. I also miss the looks of the k02 but at my age I like the ride quality and comfort over the cool looks. The new Michelins have been outstanding so far in both dry and rainy conditions. No off road use yet.

For context this is the newest Michelin Defender LTX MS2 according to DT. I purchased the 285/65/18

Specifically, you purchased the

MICHELIN® DEFENDER® LTX® M/S 2 LT285/65R18 125S BSW Load Range E

If your KO2's were the same size, they would have required the same tire pressure as these new Michelins.

Can you explain more about your comment, "...but at my age I like the ride quality and comfort over the cool looks?" I don't understand how two Load Range E LT-Metric tires can vary so much in ride quality and comfort - what did you notice the most?

TIA

So for me personally I thought that the bfg tire was a rougher ride at both slow speeds around town and at highway speeds. DT road forced balanced them but to me as soon as I drove off the lot I could tell that I had sacrificed that 200 butter smooth ride. The biggest factor for me was that my wife and kids all said that the ride felt “jittery”. Because this 200 is the family road trip vehicle I thought that even as much as I liked the look of the BFGs, I wanted that super smooth ride back and considering that I don’t use it off road except on rare occasions, the BFGs were for me just more of a good looking tire than something I needed. Just my opinion.

Still don't know why folks don't go 275/70
That’s the size of my current KO2. The defender doesn’t come in that size. Just the LTX does. Now the difference between the defender LTX m/s and non defender and LTX A/T 2….I haven’t a clue, way too many options.

I literally have two sets of 275/70r18 Defender LTX MS (not MS2) on my j100s.

Am I missing something (sorry)? https://amzn.to/3FajVXf

I personally prefer the 285 width vs the 275. I just wanted a little more height so I went with the 65 vs stock 60. I also added the OEM spacer to level it out

Sorry I should have been clear. I had the LTX m/s. I would have gotten them again. In a summer or 2 when I’m due again I’ll likely get the LTX m/s2.

Dragging this thread back up. I have an upcoming trip to Banff and Jasper next week. Weather outlook is rain and snow (I have great timing for vacations)
I currently run the 275/65R18 LTX AT2s and they are getting low in tread and suck in snow. I really don't want to run my snow tires for this trip as that is a lot of miles for what may amount to small accumulations of snow. (probably less than 3")
I will be towing a 4K lb travel trailer.
I might have access to a set of 275/55R20 Defender LTX M/S and 20" wheels for a good price. (claims to only have about 5K miles on them)
Would the LTX M/S be a good enough tire to run in the snow while towing?
I know these may have been posted somewhere around here before, but think they might be relevant to your question:

We don't have DT down here, but AT, how long is their 100% satisfaction good for?

I had the BFGs for 4-5 weeks before I traded them in. I think they have a matrix where it depends on how long and how many miles you have on them when you trade them in. I got 100%credit towards the new Michelins. Just had to pay 100 bucks to remount and balance

I’ll need new tires here soon for the Sequoia and I’m hoping they’ll have the right size in the Defender LTX M/S2 when it’s time. We got the original Defender for our 2017 LC since these weren’t out yet.
