It actually reminds me of a time a few years ago in Auburn, when someone got stuck in a soft deer field in Tuskegee Nat. Forrest.
By the end of the night, there were no s*** about 15 trucks stuck throughout this enormous flat land, And probably about 100 people basically partying close by. the ground was so soft. I bet every ricky-redneck. offroader, tow-truck service was represented in that field... It was like I've never seen before. I thought about that night today and reminded myself, I have to be able to help myself before I can help anyone else.

Helped as best I could earlier today. Getting a single file line of cars up the hill to get their kids at a middle school and elementary school. Had to come home cause I was hurting too bad in the truck that I have a hard time driving with my leg! LOL. But it was SO worth it.
If it was more than just me, I'd head out now, but as one person if something happened to me by myself... I'd be screwed.
I truly hope folks are teaming up out there if they have to stay on the road... cause per FB... there's ALOT!

when I was DDing the 80 I had a 72+ hour bag on me at all times....

I am putting two more together + an emergency box to keep in my office.

this caught me with my pants down I hope I can learn from this and not make the same mistakes again.

Boots on the ground, wish i was closer to either area to help out. We were cold and windy, but no blow from the heavens up here.

Stay safe guys.

Eric if there was a medal for being "The Man" you would get my vote. Take care of yourself and get better so we can do some "bouncin" soon :)

Anybody out there need any hub sockets?

Successfully got 3 people home from work. I've been in the cruiser since noon. Just got home at 10:20. Picked up some people at a gas station to get the family back to their house down the street. They got stuck on a hill in a neighborhood.

The cruiser impressed me today. I'm sure tomorrow could be spent jump starting cars and pulling them out of ditches

I have a set of chains listed for sale. Can overnight. Wow really, I'm from Nebraska and snow is cool, or cold.

Your cruiser impressed you today?
With vice grips, You helped me manually turn a transfer gear into Lo-range to bounce around a mountain and then back into Hi -range to get home 2 hours away, and today your cruiser took people back and forth from the mall... and you impressed your self?

Thems jokes! Awesome job today! Get rest, tomorrow will be just as bad! Can't wait to help more folks!

Who did I see on 119 today around 6:00 or so. Road was so slick it gave me a fit. Turned around in front of a nice dark 80. Left to pick up my son in law at 11:30 and got back home at 10:15. No sand on 280 at all everywhere was a big mess. Glad to be in a cruiser as it did just fine and can't imagine being without one.
The city of Hoover needs to do some explaining!
I know where are the new 200's are. On 280. Actually saw one abandoned on the side of the road. What the heck?!!

I actually had a guy ask me if I had 4WD. He obviously didn't look at what I was driving.

The funny part today. Everytime someone was making some bone head move like getting in the other lane and passing a bunch of cars just to get ahead was someone they were driving a jeep wrangler. Idk what the deal is with then wrangler drivers

I spent a couple of hours earlier today giving folks rides, and went back out about 9 to do the same, just got home. Towed a couple folks and pushed several more. What the HELL is with cars not having front tow hooks? Only folks I could tow were 2wd pickups that had them! (Noted... the hundo doesn't have one either...)

Glad that several of us were able to help out.

Eric, your point of, "You can't help if you don't get there," is well taken. Stay safe out there.

If you drive a corvette and blocked the street coming into my neighborhood. Forget you.

With the amount of ice n the roads... a single person could prolly swing a vehicle out of the way. I was seeing some pretty he-man type moves

Yep, I came across a guy stuck on a back road in southside in an old caprice and stopped to help. Weird feeling but I could push the front end around like it was on wheel dollies.

If you need to help someone out of the way. Don't concern yourself with trying to find a "hook".... I literally used a big ratchet strap with hooks. The guys finding places to hook in anything sturdy. It works in these type conditions, you ain't stuck in mud, your just slipping on the surface, so it's easy to pull 3000 lbs across ice.

One car was hooked to the edge of the trans-axle skid plate... no damage even done. And given this extreme circumstance... who cares. I bet they'd rather be off the road with a dented skid plate, than spend the night on the road with a perfect skid plate.

Pretty sure I just saw Keith's cruiser on 280 in Fox6News coverage.

I was on 280 very briefly today between Hugh Daniel and HWY 119, and a couple of times crossing at Brook Highland Parkway.

I stopped to pull a woman in a dodge ram with handicap tags, and quickly realized it was a terrible spot. Wound up having to drive up in the grass to make it up the hill, as it was solid ice. My brother in law actually pushed the back end of the cruiser sideways to help get me perpendicular to the curb so I could back over it. Unfortunately we weren't able to get in a spot that a pull was possible, which was tough to admit defeat about. However, if I had tried to pull her, I would have just wound up sliding sideways into two or three other cars.

We made it to pick up my sister in law who spent the night at the warming station at the Leeds Civic Center, and dropped her off at their apartment. Went on to get my wife, daughter, and mother in law who were stranded in town and stayed at a friend's house. Pulled a guy in a 2wd tundra out, and gave a couple of folks rides who were walking.

The most ridiculous / astonishing thing I saw all day was a Hummer H2 pulling an 18 wheeler, while a Ford F250 with a steel bumper pushed from behind, and got it up and over the hill on Zieglar road between 119 and Rex Lake. We were both like, "Look at these couple of idiots, this is going to be a disaster. Hooooooly cow it's working. No way."

Corvette and the rest of the cars are still piled up at the entrance to my neighborhood, it's a total charlie foxtrot.

Grants Mill Rd. at Sicard Hollow / Rex Lake is awful, there were probably 10-12 cars in a pile on the hill.

As a few were helping folks through the abandoned cars this morning, two men in a Tacoma started yelling at us telling us we were making things worse as they continued by, never stopping. I was kinda in their way moving another car out of a huge line of cars way, so as I moved to let them out the guys yelled at me to come back. LOL. I did and explained to them I was just letting the haters go, so we could continue helping these other folks get to their kids at Bumpus Middle and the Elementary school.

I finally saw a Hoover PD back here since this whele ordeal started.

My opinion is that having only ONE way in to a High, Middle AND Elementary school, with a hill like the divided road has.... and NO city effort for two days to assist the hundreds and hundreds of people coming back here.... That's a disgrace.

What is the city going to do?? Send in crown Vics driven by people who have never seen snow on ice before?
