A few of us GXOR buddies are planning to go snow wheeling day trip from the Bay area. With lot of snowfall coming in, we figured it would be a good idea to head out in a week or so.
Any good trails you suggest. Many trails in the national sierra forests are totally overrun with snow, anything without tracks is not going anywhere.
So looking out for simpler lower altitude trails which do have some deep snow which is drivable

Check out Bald Mountain (Fresno).

Heavy snows usually close the trail near start itself. Thrusdays storm will dump a lot of snow. We are thinking maybe highway 80 Meadow lake area. Start from a lower altitude with less snow and see how far we make it

Henness Pass Rd. You might be able to access off 89 north of Truckee, but certainly can access via 89. They could have the road to meadow lake closed for snowmobiling.

It's not a trailhead, it's an actual road that's not plowed in the winter. It runs from near Grass Valley all the way to Verdi (NV). I'd recommended running the end that starts in Camptonville on 49. You can go as far as your capable. 39.464839, 121.023877 per google maps.

Thanks a ton. This really helps

So, I wanted to add to this as I was shown a new trail/road. The Yuba pass exit off highway 80 also takes you to a road that is often covered in snow in the winter. There's a left a little ways in and you can go up a couple of miles. Lots of families use the beginning of the road to park and play in the snow. The road is a good road, but it's challenging with enough snow and really easy to get to.

Mormon Immigrant trail off 50. Unplowed but open, gated at top so it is not a through road during the winter. Just keep on heading up until you cant.

We did both MET as well as Uncle Tom's Cabin (Wentworth Springs). We are again going to MET this Sunday. Holler if anybody from Bay area/Sac etc., wanna join in
Right now we are 1 GX, 1 4runner and maybe 1 rubicon

Butte county off roaders often go to butte meadows off hw32 to play around in the snow. Its probably in prime condition right now after last storm, but would check b4 departure. This is less than an hour from chico, putting it within that range.
