Hi,

I remember a fact or rumor about different gearboxes/setting in HJ60s:

- snow setting --> diagonally opposite wheels digging/twitching through the snow trying to reach firm ground
- sand setting --> smooth rotation wheels not digging into sand.

The difference would be also in serial numbers, last digit even for snow, odd for sand (or vice versa).

Does anybody know is this just a joke or fact?

Never ear about that ..

Just know 2 options ..

H42 ( 4 speed ) and H55F ( 5 speed ) taking about manuals .. other will be the auto.

like tapage said i havent heard of it either... It was prolly just someone being funny.

Sounds like a tall-tale my friend. Should be a garden variety part-time 2-speed transfer case.

Mr tressart,
For tires I like skinny tires to dig down when driving in snow. Diagonal pattern on the tires makes it dig nicely. But your from the country of the best tires, Nokian. I love my nokians.

Sand wide big pattern and low pressure is best.

Gear boxes never were different.
