Guys,

Well they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery !! A Few comments and questions for you all:

Comments:

1, If a Safari design (material is irrelevant) is ripped off, we shall come after whoever is responsible with all guns blazing. Please do not think a little ocean will deter us.

2, 15 years ago, Safari manufactured snorkels in fiberglass. It has not since that time.
There were good reasons for the change which still apply. It is called evolutionary development and we would not have thought North Americans wanted to move backwards a decade and a half.

3, Safari snorkels are not made from ABS plastic.

Now to our question. - What retail price are you guys being quoted for a Safari snorkel to suit a BJ70 series ?

retail is something like $400 usd for them. I would guess average retail is ~$300usd. Pretty damn high for a piece of plastic. There can't be a whole lot of engineering behind them.

The only thing I don't like about your snorkels are the ram air grate DOESN'T hold up. They crack and break all the time. The other thing is could you make a 40 and 60 series snorkel to fit N/A 2F?

At any rate I've had 3 of them a 40, 60, and 70 series.

i asked David why he doesn't use fiberglass and he basicly told me to bugger off, so don't expect a reply.

It was my last snorkel, I am just cleaning house and sold it for almost cost.

Not really selling many parts these days, more in the service of local trucks.

I would be interested in a BJ74 Snorkle in the future, maybe 3 in total. Talk to you in the up coming months on the snorkle.

that is too bad, Rob, at that price they would have been a steal.
my take on this is if your cost is 325 then the boys here are making about $150 per for profit...

There is a company in Australia that advertises $289 for snorkels
www.4wdsystems.com.au not sure of the quality but am tempted to get one sent to me.
 
I have one of the origanal fibreglass snorkels its taken a few hits,its scratched I retightened the mount screws the other day otherwise its in good nick.The grate on the front of mine is eom safari which I think is supplied from Donaldson so its quality should be pretty good.I would get a plastic one just to know that I could squash it with a tree etc and know that it will survive the next creek.By the way Canadian prices sound similar to Aus I will check price with exchange rate
 
i will say this, if you do buy their snorkel and use the pattern to line it up be ready for a new fender. the pattern that came with both my snorkels was off by over an 1" in height and 3/4" in horizontal...
for $500 i would hope they could get a piece of paper right...

Interesting link, Rob...The air ram on those snorkels look VERY similar to the original Safari Snorkel ram (before they went to the more rounded look).

wow, yeah this is back from the dead. "Safari Snorkel"'s post in interesting though, I hope that isn't what killed the project. The idea that the shape of a piece of plastic tubing is internationally copyrighted is... hilarious. Almost hilarious enough for me to make a knockoff just to piss them off.
