Where did you relocate your cool air intake? Is it still below the headlight or did you just take it off? When people say stock, they don't mean leaving the cool air intake in its stock position, right? I don't see how you wouldn't suck water from that stupid location.

waterproof why would I waste my time?
naw for real tho i got all the conectors and dizzy taken care of already
and how many deeper than your hood? not many most dont go past the bottom of the door.




I got deeper than that on a stock setup, but like you said if care is taken you can go deeper.

when i say stock i mean the air intake system has not been changed in any way.

yea the cool air intake is still in the same place but it has so many holes in it that i dont think it can really get much suction goin on where it site behind the headlamp.

however its prolly a good idea to take it off just as a precaution just havent dont it yet.

Wow, that is good to hear. I need to relocate my intake. People have suggested on the passenger side firewall if I can't put in a snorkel. But you lose a bit in fuel mileage.

The snorkel will bring in cooler air which good for a 62. My aircleaner is considerably cleaner than what my running partner show when we compare.

Have had 3 60's, a 55, a 40, and worked with a 45 for a while. All saw water over the hood for short time in creek(river)crossings in eastern tenn mountains. (HAD THEM SPUTTER BUT NEVER DIED) Currently rebuilding the latest 60 and this thread has me thinking. However the clean air on dusty roads would be a very good reason for the conversion, dirt roads for any time and the filters get a real work out. Currently in Charleston SC do you think? HUM, naw that puddle called the atlantic sure to drown out even with a snorkle.

Living in Utah is pretty much a dry affair unless you're dumb enough to try to cross the Green or the Colorado. In either case no snorkel will help you. After the SOA, my air cleaner is about five feet off the ground. I don't see it being an issue.

Utah has more than 2 rivers

Its not at all uncommon to get high waters all over Southern Utah, the Delores, the Fuller Bottom Crossing of the San Rafael, Kane Creek in Moab, spots along the HITR route, Arch Canyon in a high runoff year just to name a few

lol!

ilove the way snorkals look on the 60s, but seeing that i am 17 and only pulling in $120 a week, i have limitations...
so, to counteract this, i saw once in an issue toyota 4wheeldrive magazine (the into Austraila article) a guy had a Hi-Lux(?) w/o a snorkal. long story short, to get through a deep creek he bungied a tarp over the front of his rig, which i now do...

yea it pushed the water out of the way and doesnt allow as much into the engine bay but for this to be effective you cannot be sitting in the water but have to be constantly moving otherwise the water will come in from the bottom of the engine bay area.
