SOR Snorkel Airbox Assembly

I too have a snorkel mounted to my 82' FJ60 that was not functional. I recently purchased the air box assembly from SOR that will bolt directly up to my snorkel and stock carb. They have a special box specific to this application. It consist of an assembly made with most of the components of a FJ62 , however, for non-smog snorkel hook up, they exclude/change some items to make it a smooth bolt on item. The part number is 012-20-I-NS-U, it list for $150, with the club discounr it is only $135. A very fair price in my opinion for bolt on items that are very specific.

I finally got tired of running a snorkel that wasn't hooked up and I did the exact same thing you are doing Dylan (well I couldn't see the pics for some reason, but it sounded the same). I, too, love my snorkel and have actually used it before, so I REALLY appreciated it.

Wow I am a slacker!

OK so finally I finished this project!

I ended up ditching my original idea of cutting the air intake off of the driver side and flipping it over and welding it onto the passenger side. I picked up an 8" piece of 3" Exhaust tubing and bent down one end to an oval shape to fit the air box better. I slowly spot welded up the new piece of exhaust tubing, moving around the tubing slowly to try and keep it cool. After it was cool, I drilled a hole on the inside and roughly cut out the oval shape and finished it off with carbide bit. Then, to really seal it up, I smeared some 5 minute JB Weld around the inside and outside seams and let that set up.

Here are some shots of the finished piece. I think I am going to pick up a 45 degree elbow to go between the Dayco hose and the air box to relieve some of the strain and allow it to flex with the engine better.

The next phase will be to take it off again and cut off the passenger piece and weld in a patch and paint the hole thing and call it a day. I figured this was a good place to stop today.

Sorry it took so long!!!

Genius! It looks so much better than the factory one too.

Nice Work.

I drilled out the spot welds on the drivers side air horn and grafted it back on the passenger side for mine.

I replaced the void in the drivers side with fiberglass as well as sealed the newly positioned horn with glass after welding to ensure a watertight bond.
Painted it all black, dropped in a K&N and topped her with the lid.

3" exhaust tubing and some ricer air connections from Vato Zone to tie into the Safari sytstem poking in on the fender.

Pics to come.
