So here it is guys, I finally got my snorkel after 13 days since the order was placed. It actually got here on the 3rd but I came back today from a road trip to Vancouver, Whistler, Seattle and surroundings ( btw, really liked all those places). Anyway here are some quick pics
Ill be posting more when I can get it side to side with a Safari and more pics of the install
Total price $254 CAD

It would be interesting to see if they have copied the Safari snorkel template... which would then take away the fears of the folks worried about the 'hole' in their fender in case this snorkel needs to be replaced by a Safari in the future.

Did you get this one off eBay? Please keep us posted on the install.

I bought a used safari snorkel on craigslist for 100 bucks and never mounted it. Then I bought a "cheap" "knockoff" snorkel for 100 bucks on ebay. I think it came from Malaysia. The only difference I saw was that it doesnt have safari stamped on it. I cleaned up and sold the safari snorkel for a profit, and kept the cheap one for my truck. It hasn't faded, but I am going to throw a coat of paint on it to match my truck anyways. Thats my input.

does anyone knows the size of the cup of the cutting tool?

After comparing side to side with a safari in a friends 08 Tacoma it looks and feels exactly the same. Materials, everything is the same, the template and the mounting bolts are good quality. Didnt have time today to do the install

Have a Safari on the 80, a cheaper Taiwan off-brand unit on the Patrol. Both are made of plastic [some cheaper models are made of fiberglass].

Both work well enough. Taiwan unit had all the necessary hardware and instructions. Both have been on the truck for more than 2 years. Tropical weather hear. Lots of sun and high humidity. The off-brand unit was involved in a fender bender. Just like those car bumpers, it popped right back into shape after the crash.

Hyperflow is also selling their snorkels here. No bad reviews so far.

Yes Hyundai owns kia but doesn't mean the quality is the same.

LOL...The ones sold in North America are built on the same platformsin the same plants by the same workers. The difference is largely styling...which I give the edge to Kia.

Anyway, I don't know...If I actually needed a snorkel it becomes a pretty critical part. I personally would go with the known quantity. Couple hundred bucks is cheaper than a hydrolocked motor. Definitely would not be an "early adopter" on this.

But if they are in fact the same...why not. Yeah, it is a ripoff but business could avoid this by not shipping manufacturing off to a country that is known to rip off stuff to save a buck.

Were the cutting and fixing templates the same?

On mine, the cheaper model does not show any signs of any water intrusion or water entry points when it was taken apart to do bodywork on the fender. Even now it is still positively sealed.

I hope BFT has the same luck on his unit.

I borrowed a template to install my no-name snorkel since mine didnt come with one. Im not sure what kind of snorkel it was from.
As far as water intrusion, I think the hose that connects it to the breather box has more to do with that than the snorkel itself. I didnt see much of a difference in those either. But if you wanted to you could always upgrade the hose/clamps, and use some sealer to be safe. Although I dont think its necessary.
As long as the snorkel if plastic and not the fiberglass ones, I honestly dont think there is any difference in "quality."

-this is worthless without more pics-

I am very interested to see it all together and completed, under the hood and mounted to the body.

All done

:D everything lined up good at this stage but I was absolutely terrified drilling Jenny

Putting some nail polish in the holes to protect from the rust. At this point 2 of the holes didnt lined up properly and I had to expand them a bit more but no big deal everything is covered by the snorkel

The template is not 100% accurate, but is no big deal its just a bit the expansion that you have to make to 2 holes. the bottom front one and the bottom last.
