That snorkel looks just like the Safari one - It even has the untextured oval for the logo. Something tells me both snorkels come from the same plant. I did see a independent test done on a Safari and a knock off. Apparently the Safari is stronger.

Edit - here are those test results - Don't Get Burnt - Low Quality Snorkel Copies

Any idea if the Camel one is on there?

Seems like there was a lot of discussion on these previously. As I recall someone familiar with Safari construction weighed in on the UV resistance of the materials and the costs to design a durable/reliable product.

If Safari had a copyright or patent on theirs, I'd say this is an infringement.

Normally it comes down to quality and fit/finish. It's the same reason you would go buy a Honda instead of a Hyundai.

Actually Hyundai makes a really good quality vehicle now, not like the past
Have a Hyundai now and had a Honda in the past
The Hyundai is of equal quality IMHO.
So your example is not a very good one
It would be more like buy a Honda instead of a Kia

I sent an e-mail asking on the damage for shipping. I'm sure this isn't super high quality, but i'm on a super budget build and don't really need a snorkel, but want one. Correct me if i'm way off base, but couldn't you toughen it up a little with a can or two of the cheap-o spray on bed liner? Would at least give it a little more durability and UV protection.

Actually Hyundai owns Kia, so you're wrong too.

It's more like buy a Honda instead of a Ford/Chrysler/GM.

I would wrap it in something. I know duct tape is popular as it'll hold together cracked plastic (you'll see it on ATV's in my area for that reason, so when they bash against a tree it still stays together). Spray it over with some bed liner, paint, etc. Would last a long time and still be dirt cheap.

Yes Hyundai owns kia but doesn't mean the quality is the same.

Actually I'd buy many fords and a few GM passenger cars before a honda now. Quality is almost the same (they've done a bunch of catching up) and cheaper to boot, normally with better warranties.

But for the record if I was to buy a mid size right now it would be a sonata first and a fusion second.

Can someone buy one of these and do a side by side comparison with one of the "brand" name ones? that would be interesting to see...I do not expect the same for $35 bucks, but I would it want it to completely suck either if I am cutting a hole in the fender...

thanks

Two questions:
  • How did you order since there is no way to order on the website? (or did I just miss it)
  • What did they charge you for shipping?

Do tell ^^^^

I have had mine for 2 years

2 years and it looks perfectly fine. Mine was the $30 from Malaysia +50 Shipping on the slow boat took 6 weeks to get stateside. :meh: Looks exactly as beat scratched or whatever as any Safari snorkel I have seen in my Area used in the same weather and conditions. I also am 100% sure I will never see -20*C in Phoenix! So who cares if it turns into strawberry flavoured silly puddy at -20C  Anyhow.. I have taken it off 2x to clean behind it.. Yes I am OCD like that.. :o no cracks or anything out of the ordinary.. And yes it does see a lot of use.. Arizona 45*C/120*F+ Days for months and sun, sun, sun and extra Arizona UV filled Sun! A few branch whackings every other outing to the dessert.. etc..

Can you take some photos to show any effects of UV? This may rule out high temps and UV as a problem. Would still have to deal with extreme cold though. The temperature in Winnipeg (Go Jets Go!) ranges from +35°C to -40°C. We may be the cold north, but we get some heat in the summer!
