If you have done the Sniper EFI conversion, what did you do with the display?

Solution
I removed the ashtray and cut a piece of black acrylic to size and attached it using the existing screws that held the ashtray. I attached the display to the black acrylic with a couple screws.

I used one of the Scosche Magicmounts you can find on amazon.

If you dont like the dual sided tape on that one, Ram makes a magnetic mount that just sticks to the dash with magnets.

I put it right next to the gauge cluster on the right. It has helpful data, so I like having it visible.

I agree. I want to keep it visible rather than leaving it in the glove compartment. I've been toying with placing it where the ash tray is now. Put a plate over the opening and fastening the display to the plate.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

This may sound like a rather stupid question, but I did not do the install myself. Goode's Off-Road was doing a restoration of my FJ40 and this was just one of the upgrades he did, so I don't really know much about the actual install. I am particularly wondering about the cable. Currently it is in the glove compartment, but if I take any of the suggestions here, I will most likely need to reroute the cable. How much of a task would this be? How do I access the end of the cable to reroute it? How much of an effort is it to run through a hole in the dash?

It's no big deal. Just unplug it from the main sniper body and re-run it how you want. I actually run mine over the brake booster and into the dash with the main harness. My scosche mount is right next to that hole on the right side of the dash, so no holes drilled.

Thank you!! I think I now know how to get started. Much appreciated!

I didn’t see the need to have the display mounted permanently. I’m offroad only and it comes with me, but it stays in a padded hard-side zippered case. Not once have I needed it on the trail. For initial setup and occasional checks at home I’ll plug it in temporary while it lays on the seat. Works for me.

I mounted right of steering column, also mounted a short section of rigid vac hose with dbl stick tape to hold the stylist just to right of it.

I had been using these magnetic pivot mounts in the cars for a few years for the cell phones and they have never failed. Seemed like they are perfect for the Sniper display.

Based on the one I use in the FJ40 on the top of the dash in the center of the defroster vents, these have again worked very well

.
I hide the wire under the middle lower dash pad, there is zero bulk to the thin metallic piece which is even better for the cell phone. When I’m in the truck or pickup, I can literally slap the case onto the magnet which hold it very very well.

@Alan Kiecker … if you don’t mind, how is your IAC% setting? I chased that target number for 2 weeks…I’m either at 14 or 0. If I do get 6 or 7..it doesn’t stay long maybe 5-8 seconds then drifts back towards 0

Sorry, but I have to plead ignorance. The Sniper is pretty much a mystery to me. I did not install it myself. I had my FJ40 at a shop for "restoration". EFI was suggested; I thought it a good idea so I had them convert to the Sniper. I just finished reading what documentation I have on the Sniper - installation and all the various parameters that you can set.. I was hoping to see what "IAC%" meant and where in the menus on the display I might find it, but alas I did not..

So far it seems to be working fine, but I don't really have much to compare it to. I probably should collect some data so that I could compute gas mileage. I'd expect an improvement. I'd expect better starting/running in cold weather and at higher elevations. I do live in Minnesota so I should be able to see how it performs in cold weather and when I take it out west see how it does at higher elevations.

If you could enlighten me on "IAC%", I'd be glad to see what mine says.

Idle Air Control
What percentage should the IAC be on a Holley sniper?

The IAC should display a 2-8% to bring the idle up to the actual target. The throttle position should be zero. If you find that the IAC is more than 8 percent, repeat this process and instead of shooting for 50 RPM below your target make it only 40 RPM below the target idle speed.
