Snakes are out

Almost ran over this guy this morning. I think he had just munched a ground squirrel so he wasn't much interested in me.

After he exited stage right I finished my ride. I look closer at sticks and branches on the trail now.

Not unusual to see snake activity along trails this time of year as the weather is becoming warmer. The trail edges present a nice transitional zone where the snakes can bask and elevate their body temperature yet remain near the habitats they normally occupy.
 
Seeing snakes on the trail for us is very common here in Central VA. Mostly black snakes but Copper heads too. LAst Thursday had to hop one that was crossing the trial as I came around the corner. Man I haate snakes! Have not been bitten but I should through a snake bitye kit in the Camel back just in case.
