So when I go down steep hills on the trail, my Cruiser likes to cloud the trail with a nice white cloud, it will smoke for a minute or two then stop. Its a thick white cloud, it smells like oil. Going down hills is the only time it smokes at all. There is never any water in the oil, the oil level never drops (it could be, but not enough to be able to tell), the coolant level never changes. It is a '68 with an F in it, my buddy also has a Cruiser with an F and on the same hills it never smokes. I'm just kind of curious if anybody else has had a problem like this and if so, what is the cause.

Valve stem seals? If you hop on it after idling for a few minutes, do you get a blue puff?

Had it on my prior 2f with the pcv up front. It would suck oil though it into the carb at really really extreme down slopes.

I replace the PCV and it went away mostly.

This is common on the older F motors that have the PCV valve at the front of the motor, two easy ways to fix this: Buy a later model 2F side cover where the fitting for the PCV valve is at the rear of the engine. Or, buy a 5' long hunk of the right size hose to fit your PCV valve. Run it back towards the firewall, cross over to the drivers side, then run it forwards where it attaches to the base of the carb. This way when you are going down a steep hill, even if the PCV sucks up some oil, it has to go uphill all the way to the firewall before it can make the turn and go into the carb. Be sure your PCV valve is functioning correctly either way you choose to fix it.

My F engine was doing this at Moab so bad that I had oil dripping out of my muffler. :hillbilly: Adding the longer hose solved the problem.

My 40 has done this, & still does. I thought it had something to do w/ the oilpan not having any baffles to keep the majority of the oil from sloshing to the upper part of the engine. I'm gonna give this tube extension a try on both rigs. Thanks for the info

Mine will do the same thing if I have to slam on brakes becuase somebody has cut me off !
