Anybody own one or used one? Any recommendations on which to get? Thinking about getting one mostly for tailgating and such where I'd like a fire but want to minimize smoke.

Are we talking the propane dealios? If so then yes they are kinda cool. We had one on a really cold wet float trip and the heat output wasn't really comparable to the real wood fire. Also went through gas kinda fast. I see tons of them at Griz tailgates though! Nice for that!

No, I was meaning something like this:
Bonfire

Huh that's pretty cool. Hope somebody has some feedback, interested as well.

That is an impressive design. I got so much stuff...….Not sure I could spend that much on spec,
but of all the wood burning stoves I've seen this one sure is the one to beat. Be wicked survival/
back up/hunting stove

Haha, I hear ya. It's pricy for sure, but being stainless it oughta last me quite a while. My main use would be for tailgating and other times where I'd rather minimize the smoke smell that permeates everything.

@forrest5000 brought one of the Bonfires out last weekend. Worked pretty well. Your feet and calves won't get warm like a fire pit fire but nobody got smoked out, either. Burned wood very efficiently. Two nights in a row and my jacket smells almost fresh still.

Used it at overland expo east , I should get a commission, for as many people went out and bought one . It's a solo stove bonfire ,but I think it puts out just as much heat,or more.

For me, portable outdoor propane fire pit works great. You can lookup online. Though i would love to hear other suggestions as well.

Yeah I've heard some of those are pretty cool, but I still want an actual wood fire.

I almost bought one last year but never did. I currently use the Campfireinacan propane fire place when I don’t feel like smelling like smoke or dealing with fire wood. It’s quick and easy, 64k btu so it throws decent heat.

I'm old school. No shortage of rocks and firewood out here in Oregon. To me, sitting around this at night just seems wrong. Give me a camp fire.

Agreed, and when I'm actually camping that's what I'll be rockin. This would be for use while tailgating, at the park, and other such events and places that won't allow open campfires.

A propane campfire? Please.
That was my 1st impression, too, until you camp where wood fires are prohibited (woods during dry summers) or wood is scarce - like Baja, for example. Nice to have a flame to tell stories by at night.

I hear you. Fire season sucks for camp fires. I've used an old turkey fryer burner before. Not the same, but (slightly) better than nothing. May have to try the red bucket trick. Or maybe a campfire app for the tablet.

I'm interested in one of these Solostove Bonfire pits also. Been eyeing one for a while. Curious if this would cause any issues setting it on a concrete driveway? I live in town, but like to have little neighborhood get together/ "campfires" out on the driveway in the summertime. On their website they have a deal going on right now for blackfriday. Buy the Solostove Bonfire, get a free Solostove Campfire (smaller version) for free. And free shipping. Was thinking about getting one.

Kudos to Solo Stove for taking wood-gas stoves principles mainstream. I would buy one for home but for overlanding, not so much. It's too big. They should make a folding one.
