It appears that the wrong pump was put in the box.
I got a new Cardone and it looks much more like the original.
I will install it today and give an update.

Noah, interesting how this happens often.

I hope the new Cardone pump does not have this problem.

Enjoy

I would hesitate to call it "often" but I have had fittment problems happen with aftermarket parts several times in all the years I have been working on cars, that is for sure.

Update: It was the wrong pump in the box.
I installed the right pump and everything is perfect.
Interestingly, the pulley was able to fit on the right pump in both directions.
I, and the O'Reiley's dude, was amazed that the other pump even fit.
Also, the new pump was much easier to install; it fit in the bottom bracket great.

The 60 is back to normal. Actually, better than normal :).

Thanks.

When my pump seized last year I went to Napa for a replacement. What came in the box was clearly not the same pump, with rubber hoses instead of the metal tube hose connectors. I asked them to try again, and after a couple of weeks they said they couldn't get anything else. So I went to another store and got a Cardone unit that had the correct frame. https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/265429-siezed.html

Bumpage.....

Anyone have a RELIABLE source for the right pump? My local Napa has tried and failed twice to get me the right Cardone pump. Each time, the box has the right Cardone part number (33768) and even has a pic on the outside of the box of the right pump, but the unit inside is no match.

Hi Benji-
I work for CARDONE. If you give me the details on your vehicle I can check to make sure you ordered the correct smog pump.

You can also check here. Catalog Search

Thanks!

I tried contacting Cardone through their website and they've so far been unresponsive. I'd like to do business with someone willing to actually crack the box open and make sure I'm getting the right unit. That place is NOT Napa :bang:.

Thanks,
Butt

Overdue update: Got the right pump on their first try at my local Car Quest. MUCH better experience than I had at Napa:cheers:

i'm more interested in how you managed to swap it out without removing the p/s... i've done two swaps, it was way easier the second time, but i still couldn't remotely figure out how to do it without removing the p/s pump...

Pulled the EGR cooler and the splash plate (or whatever that thing is called) from the top of the frame rail just aft of the steering box and dropped the smog pump through the bottom.

Well, after an unfruitful search for a reman pump (wrong pump shipped three times!) I bought a used but functional unit from a reliable Mud'er. My latest 'new-to-me' replacement has been working well.... for about a month. Now it's showing signs of imminent failure:frown:.

I'm going to go a different direction. I put my order in to Jim C for a pulley. I'll have my currently failing pump rebuilt through Rebuilding Factory and it will live in a box (with many other parts) until I need it again someday. I hope my pulley gets here soon as this is my DD.
