I just finished replacing my manifold gasket :bang: and was looking for exhaust leaks. Now I can feel a ton of ar coming out of a hole in the back of my smog pump. Is this normal? I never noticed it before but i think that i would have. There is a large rivit about an inch directly below the hole and it seemes to me there is one missing where this air is coming from. Sorry no pics, i took one but cant seem to find my camera now. Any ideas guys? Thanks

There is a hole in the back of the s.p.
Only one though. I believe its normal to have some air movement - I'm not brave enough to try to put my hand back there with the engine running - maybe my arms are too short.

PIC

I found the pic, there is a LOT of air. Feels like a blowgun from a compressor, maybe its fine. Its not ofen that i stick my hands around there so.....

I imagine that when engine conditions don't require the air injection system to pump air into the exhaust stream, the bypass valve makes the air go through that little hole. I'm too lazy to go check mine right now, but I think you're probably OK.

The air returns to the air cleaner if not going to the air injection system. I have never heard of this hole in the back but don't see how it could actuate open and close. It might be a one time over pressure pop off hole to save the pump if the output is completely blocked. I don't remember having a hole in mine but will check.

Thanks for the input guys, I guess i might need to look at my friends as well next time he's around. If anyone else gets a chance to look at theirs i would greatly appreciate it. Just for reference i was idling around 800 rpm's when i felt the air blowing out. It still looks to me like a rivit of some sort is missing. :meh:

The hole is suppose to be there, I jusk checked my cruiser same thing. I would guess you are OK,

Good luck

same here got a hole in same spot.:bounce:
